The shooting community
Friday morning, I called my wife from work and asked her to drop by a local Wally World just to
see if they might happen to have a few boxes of .45 auto. Being the loving wife she is, did exactly
as I asked. I don't have to tell anyone on this forum how hard many calibers of ammo are to come by....
anyway, she called and said she found 3 boxes (50 rnd) of Federal 230gr FMJ. I told her to buy them all.
In the past, I have seen .40 S&W, .357, .44 etc and knew I could buy them and resell at a profit, but I
didn't. I figured somebody that used those calibers on a regular basis might need them worse than I needed
the few extra bucks I might make by reselling. Well, a Wally World employee and another gentleman
approached the glass case. The other gentleman had sought out the employee to buy.....the 3 boxes of
.45 auto. He was there first. He asked my wife what caliber she wanted. They chatted for a minute or two,
he offered to split the ammo with her. Asked who she was buying it for etc. She told him her husband.
He gave her 2 boxes and took one for himself! He told her to tell me (her husband) compliments of an
old "Marine".
I know this story is long and disjointed but my point is this...... another instance of courtesy and
generosity from a member of the shooting community. What goes around comes around. Karma?
Naw, just another instance of the common decency among the majority of the "gun nuts".
I've meet the nicest folks at gun ranges and shoots. Gun forums where I've sold and bought guns,
guitars etc.
If you were the old "Marine", and you happen to frequent this forum, I would like to personally thank you!
You made my day.

Marines aren't all bad, despite the fact they're nothing but the Navy's Army....

Re: The shooting community
I tend to agree for the most part. I have belonged to a local gun club for 34 years and found that most of my fellow members are good people who enjoy a common bond in hunting and/or shooting. I can go to the range and meet someone for the first time and end up leaving like I have known them for years. They will share knowledge and experience. I have had them give me, a complete stranger, ammo or gun parts to try out to see if it works for me.
However, I have also found a few people that I don't want to be anywhere near them at any time. These are few and far between, but unfortunately are in the ranks as well nevertheless. On these rare occasions, I found the best recourse was to pack my range bag up and leave.

i can't tell you how many times i have struck up conversations with people at the ammo counter at Walmart .
usually if one or the other has trouble finding a certain caliber , the other is more than willing to
offer helpful information as to where they might have luck in finding that ammo.
i think its a Texas thing as well as a fellow shooter thing .

FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.
Re: The shooting community
I've always said that some of the nicest people I've met are at the gun range or at gun shows. Maybe it's just the fact that we have a mutual respect for firearms that we can extend that mutual respect towards each other.
Great story - it's refreshing to read things like this rather than another story about how someone cleans out an ammo shelf while another person stood there waiting (which has happened to me before).
