Unusual PT 92

I'm kinda interested in this on Gunbroker http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewIt ... =157353017" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Oddly it says 4 1/4 inch barrel..whereas the PT 92 usually has a 4 3/4. Also note it doesn't have a rail... The serial number doesn't show up when you search for it on th Taurus sight...

any thoughts?

I don't know much about the gun, so I started searching. Apparently it's highly thought of in many circles. On par with their Beretta counterpart, because it's made on all Beretta machinery:

"Beretta had won a huge contract in 1974 to produce small arms for the army of Brazil. Part of the deal was that Beretta construct a Brazilian factory and use Brazilian labor. This they did, in the southwestern coastal city of Sao Paulo. When the contract ran out in 1980, Beretta sold the plant, literally "lock, stock and barrel," to Taurus. Taurus now owned everything that once belonged to Beretta, including drawings, tooling, machinery, and a very experienced work force. Taurus was in the pistol business, and immediately sought to improve on the Beretta design, resulting in the popular and acclaimed Taurus PT-92 and PT-99 9mm pistols."

If I were in the market I'd bid on it. But like I say, I know nothing about the gun.

Correct, PT 92's are very well thought of. The part that I find odd here is the fact that the barrel is 1/2 inch shorter than PT 92's are and that the serial number doesn't come up. Just dont know what that means

I've got one in stainless and they're flawless just like the 92FS's. Maybe he has a typo?

I was looking at the 92F's on the Taurus website and comparing it to the pic that wgoforth posted in his link.

It looks like the barell terminates at the end of the slide, whereas the barrel on a 92F extennds beyond the barrel about 1/2"...mabye?

All in all it's a pretty neat looking gun! I wouldn't mind having one at all.

Well, went ahead and bought it. I figure at the price, $279, I can resell and get my money out if I don't like it.

Looks like it could do with a refinishing. Anyone know of a good place to have that done?

That may be the case. That makes the most sense to me.

Well, went ahead and bought it. I figure at the price, $279, I can resell and get my money out if I don't like it.

When you get it, take a look and see if that's the original barrel. My PT99AF has the muzzle past the end of the slide, (and also doesn't turn up on Taurus's web serial lookup) and as far as I'm aware, 92/99 models with the same letter suffix only differ in the sights. (adjustable on the 99 vs fixed on the 92)

I know there are at least a few match-grade barrels available for these, so maybe somebody got a custom one. Since most open-muzzle holsters I've seen for the 92/99 only cover it out to the end of the slide, it might have been done that way to keep the crown from getting scraped up during open-carry.

Someone on the Taurus forum thinks these were the PT 92's that were manufactured for Brazilian Police force. I will definitly check the barrel, thanks for the heads-up on that. It looks more like the PT 917. It's odd
