Short story: two men get into an argument over their CB radios. They agree to meet at a mall parking lot to square things up. This is in the wee hours of the morning, by the way. Shots are fired. As police are responding to reports of shots fired, the survivor drives home and calls 9-1-1 from his house to request an ambulance and report the shooting (no word on whether he had a cell phone and could have used that instead of driving home).
Warning: if you watch the video segment from the following link, be forewarned that the reporter is simply agog that the shooter is out of jail and not currently facing charges. The reporter seems ready to lead the lynch mob himself.

Police have released the full 9-1-1 call (up to the point where the shooter hands the phone to his wife and steps outside to meet police). If I was a CHL instructor, I think I'd include this in my class:

Couple of thoughts: first, the 9-1-1 operator engages in some interrogation about how and why that really isn't relevant for the responding officers, but which could be used in a prosecution (should charges be filed). Since operators aren't (usually) sworn officers, confessing to something stupid on a 9-1-1 tape is not subject to Miranda or other limits on use by the prosecution.
Second, two grown men getting into a verbal argument via CB and then meeting to settle things... just plain silly. I do carry a handheld CB, and listen from time to time while on long interstate drives. It's not the kid-safe CB of the 1970's "Convoy" craze: today's Channel 19 is full of cursing, arguing, and challenges to meet at the next exit for a squarin' off.
I don't know if the shooter will wind up charged with this. He was stupid to show up to meet the other guy. Once he did, it sounds as if it was a legitimate use of deadly force. Yes, even though the reporter breathlessly emphasizes, "...even though police say he murdered Eichorn."

Oh, and if you watch the video, you'll see a pretty decent group around the door pillar.
