"MA" as in Massachusetts, not Martial Arts.

25 y.o. man sitting on own porch with a friend at 12:25 a.m. Two guys walk off the street and ask him if he knows "Veronica?" (Alarm gongs should go off in his head about now). He says no. Two guys leave, come back a few minutes later and ask, "Is this Salem Street?" (DING! DING! DING! DING! DING!). Yes. "Empty your pockets."
One guy starts pistol-whipping the porch-sitter. Porch-sitter struggles to get his own gun out of his waistband, ends up firing through his clothes.
Final score: Two robbers, dead. Porch-sitter shot four times, wounded in wrist, chest, and groin. Wonder how many of those self-inflicted?
Mom: “He had it on him. Why, I don’t know. His friends said he’s never had it on him. But I am very thankful he did."
Mom also said he got a license four years ago for "target shooting," so this might not be a carry license.

It's on his porch, he shouldn't need a carry license (though it is MA)

Actually, the laws in MA are pretty draconian. You have to have a LTC (license to carry) just to own handguns. If the fellow wanted to get into handgun target shooting in MA, he'd have to go through a lengthy process and get a LTC just to do that.
