My New AR10

Armalite had a sale Thanksgiving on their NM upper so i ordered one and orderd all the parts and built my own lower half.
Headed to the range tomorrow and bust off a few .308's...

I love these, I was privladged enough to shoot one with a .300Win-Mag suppressor and it shot like a dream.

Looks like they even have forward assist now, didn't have them back in the day when I had one.

Range photos'...had fun and no problems except windy.Gusts up to 25 mph.I need a better trigger.I have a RRA 2 stage coming.
The lower is Armalite.On warranty question...lifetime if you buy the complete rifle.Not sure if just buying the upper.
I built a stand to clean my barrel after 2 shots ech time, progressing up to 4 shots ect.barrel break in stuff.
Also armalite policy is not to sell stripped lowers to individuals, so i got my lower from 762sass.com (transfered to local dealer)

Now out to 100 yards...I think i will get better after i get used to it and have a better trigger.

What is the twist rate on that barrel? If it's 1:10, you might be better off with 175 grain SMKs. Black Hills makes a 175 grain load that performs pretty well in my 1:10 barrels.

Yeah its the 1:10 and armalite suggests the 168 to 180 gr and will stabalize 200.I have not been able to find anything match grade above 168
that resonable priced anyway.I am fixing to start reloading my .308 so will experiment with it.
I look at ammoseek.com daily....

Well, I know that Black Hills makes a match quality 175 load, because I've shot it with great results. I don't remember the price. However, I currently shoot a handload consisting of the 175 grain SMK over 42.6 grains of Varget, with CCI Large Rifle primers. Here's the results for that load in my bolt rifle with a 1:10 twist, 4 rounds, 100 yards:


Also, check CTD for the 175 grain Lake City match load, which they sometimes have. That is the load developed for Army and Marine snipers, and it is quite accurate. It is also pretty hot, and it really thumps you under recoil.

My M1A, which has a 1:11 twist, seems to like 165-168 grain bullets. But, it doesn't shoot them as tightly as my bolt rifle does. The very best groups shot from my M1A were around .75" shooting the 165 grain Federal Fusion, which it seems to like even better than the handloads I've built so far for it using the 168 grain SMK. Mostly, that rifle shoots around 1.0 to 1.5 MOA, which is still pretty good for a semi-automatic battle rifle.
