Only place I have ever seen ammo mentioned is in reference to availability of a loaded weapon to a minor. Something to the effect of "readily dischargeable". San Antonio sure seems to like to make firearms laws as does Plano ISD.Pawpaw wrote:State law in Texas doesn't even regulate long guns (or any kind of ammo), only handguns. Texas has state preemption, so no local government can have a law regarding the carrying of firearms.

Should residents be able to carry a gun in their car without a license from this state?alvins wrote:personally i dont think a non resident should have the same right to carry a gun in their car without a reciprocal chl from another state.
I believe the basic political division in this country is not between liberals and conservatives but between those who believe that they should have a say in the personal lives of strangers and those who do not.

I would think that an out of state person who was stopped for an infraction and a loaded firearm was found in the vehicle with no CHL would end up taking a ride. They may beat the charge but the ride will not be free.

...alright...let's get to the booking desk with this one...and the Sergeant asks the officer ""What law did he violate, Officer?" what would your answer be??? that's the bottom line...no law violated...no reason for or right to arrest...if you can't quote one...there IS no charge...

Why would you think that? The MPA doesn't list Texas citizenship or residency as a requirement:Salty1 wrote:I would think that an out of state person who was stopped for an infraction and a loaded firearm was found in the vehicle with no CHL would end up taking a ride. 1) the handgun remains concealed
2) the person is not engaged in criminal activity, other than a Class C misdemeanor that is a violation of a law or ordinance regulating traffic
3) the person is not prohibited by law from possessing a firearm
4) the person is not a member of a criminal street gang

Wow, I'm gonna chalk that whole comment up to a typo and disregard.alvins wrote:personally i dont think a non resident should have the same right to carry a gun in their car without a reciprocal chl from another state.

And is it different in IL with their FOIDs? Maybe on paper, someone from another State could get a FOID but I doubt that it is possible in reality. It would be an interesting gamble of the $10 application fee to find out.G.A. Why?alvins wrote:personally i dont think a non resident should have the same right to carry a gun in their car without a reciprocal chl from another state.
Isn't the rule "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you"?
Should Texas residents be restricted from car carry in other states only because they do not reside in that state? Trying to understand the logic by which you have formed your opinion.
