LaRue Range Day
I'm going to try and make it to this event. Hopefully the wife doesn't have anything planned for me.

Went last year. It's a lot of fun but VERY crowded. I'm guessing they had 3,000-plus show up.

Got to fire a number of their rifles, including an Stealth rifle with $2,000 Nightforce scope at a 500-yard target and a number of OBRs with various Aimpoints, EOTechs, ACOGS, etc.

You'll be blown away how cool the range is if you've never been. I shoot there when I can (it's about a 30-40 minute drive from my house). 1,000 yard rifle range, 100 yard x 75 yard tactical shooting bays, etc.

And if they serve the free barbecue again, GET SOME - it's good and they'll usually give you a bunch of free goodies including some very good BBQ rub, keychains, bags, hats etc. Not to mention a full retail area selling all of their stuff plus scopes etc.

Hm. This is the day before my birthday...I'm thinking I'll ask off of work, and made the 1 hour trip down. Looks like a blast!

I'm looking forward to trying my hand at a scaled down version of the challenge on Top Shot 3 that featured a LaRue OBR rifle. Sounds like the winner of this challenge wins a rifle like the one featured on the show!

I won't be able to attend this year, even if I wanted to pay the $30 shooter fee. Last year it was so crowded I only got to shoot two OBR stages (5 rounds each) and another AR-15 stage they set up later in the day. Never got in to the long range. Can't complain about that since it was free and got a meal and a couple freebies to boot. But, if I'm going to pay $30/$40 I'd like some indication of how much I'll be able to shoot.
I believe there is safety in numbers..
numbers like: 9, .22, .38, .357, .45, .223, 5.56, 7.62, 6.5, .30-06...

Should be fun. I'll be there, but not sure how much I'll get to shoot, as I'm helping work the event. :coolgleamA:

Me too. I also would like to know how much you stand in line before shooting. Based on stories from last year, I'm thinking of buying the non-shooting wristband. That gets me entry, lunch, and the opportunity to gawk and socialize.

Was there last year - it was free and they passed out a few "goodies" so I didn't complain about the crowd. (After the first rush, lines to shoot were AT LEAST an hour - at EACH stage! Only shot once . . .)

Lines at the vendor tent WERE NOT MOVING by the time I got there.

Now this year, they're charging money to attend, more money to shoot . . . well, events like this don't come cheap, but I'm NOT going to pay to (mostly) stand in line.

Good luck to those who attend, be sure to file an "after-action" report.
