Price on XDm 9mm compact

Post by Wes »

I have been calling around looking for this and found it at Academy for $549 which seems like a decent price. I know there is a Dallas gun show this weekend, but that is almost an hour drive for me. With it being fairly new, do you all think it would be worth the trouble trying to get a better deal at the show? Thanks

add the gas, enterence fee and time and I doubt you would come out ahead, unless you want to make a day out of it and browse the show. Always interesting things to see there and grab a few packs of jerky.........

Thats the problem! I would likely walk around and grab all kinds of goodies! lol, but if it saved me a hundred bucks on the gun, i could get a nice holster and a clip or two extra for that. Round trip costs would only be about 20 bucks, so even $50 in savings would get me something extra. Main reason i ask is i got my moss 500 at a gun show in fort worth and literally didnt save a dime on retail.

Problem with the gun show is you never know what vendors will show up and what they'll charge. If you can go to the show and keep your money in your pocket you will be able to see if you can save some money. The gun at Academy will be there when you go back, but then you are spending the $30 bucks on gas and admission... tough choice. I would probably go to the show, spend a lot of money on other stuff and then curse myself for doing so... :???: Good luck and share a picture when you get it!
I've spent a lot of money on guns, bullets and holsters.... The rest I've just squandered away!

I seriously doubt you will beat that price. The people that sell at gun shows usually know the prices quite well and sell NIB at all the market will bear with a good discount only if there is very noticeable cosmetic damage or hard wear. At least with respect to modern popular guns for shooting (not for collection and in competition with brick&mortar stores).

Cheapest I saw was 537 from Cheaper then dirt not including the ffl fee. Academy looks like a good price! I know everybody wants the latest and greatest with the xdm but the xd compacts are cheap now if you want to save 130 bucks. You can get yours from cheaper then dirt with the ffl fee and tax for about 445. That's pretty good considering just 3 years ago they were going for as much as a Glock (about 500).

In my experience Gun shows are not worth it anymore. Before the gun and ammo run in 08 they were but the dealers are not bargaining any more because the guns are gone as soon as they get them. Only used guns or display guns can you really get a deal. That's how I got a new p95 for 280 after tax, it was new but the display and last one at a show. New model guns usually drop in price after 2-3 years.

Yea, i actually found it online at a place called centerfiresystems.com for 509 but not sure about online, would prefer to pay and pick it up immediately. Thanks for the feedback so far though, it makes sense on the pricing. Still undecided on it, but either way i will have it Saturday, lol.

Some gun show vendors are now adding 3-5% for credit card purchases and they also charge sales tax.

That's not the worst of it either. The biggest problem I have with gun shows is that everyone I have been to in the last 5 years is 30.06 posted! Some I have seen where they render your gun "inoperative" with a strap tie and make sure it is unloaded and others don't allow any hand guns unless you are selling. :mad5

...if you're willing to consider used, and would spend the same day shopping pawn shops, I believe you'd save some serious money...I haven't bought a brand-new gun in many years...
