However I do find it troublesome and frankly a little over kill when threads are locked because of a common thread in another section. I don't know maybe I am special, but I don't read EVERY section of this forum, so maybe I don't know when a topic is already running somewhere else. If someone posts a topic in General CHL that is already running in the Blotter or in the whatever section it doesn't really bother me, because I don't look at all the different sections. SO , I may only see the DUPLICATE thread here. Do we really need to be so quick to lock topics? IMPO

I understand that, although even though it hasn't happened to me, I would think the poster of the duplicate topic would feel a "little" punished when they are just trying to share something.
Just putting thoughts out there...I'll crawl back into my hole now.

It's a little known secret but the forum does have a search function if you want to check for duplicates before posting breaking news to make sure it's new.

Re: Sticking my neck out as usual...
Let's see if I can explain it.....from another point of view.
It's done so that once a topic is started, all future posts concerning that topic will be posted in the original thread. There will be no other threads with that subj/topic.
Consider this.....
You see a thread with an interesting topic and you read the posts there. Then you see another duplicate topic thread and some posts there. Then you see 10 more, with the same topic and all kinds of different people posting replies......
Think you could keep up with that topic/discussion?
Don't you agree then that all in one thread is the most efficient way to keep up with all discussion on a particular topic/thread?
Additionally, if you are only reading in the "General Discussions" section (as you said), you are missing out a LOT on interesting discussions in other sections. You should really hit the "view new posts" link at the top of every page every time you visit the site. Then you will see lots of stuff you haven't seen before!

We do try to keep things tidy by not having duplicate threads running all over the forum.
It's not that we are picking on anyone... (well, maybe some of you - but only when you really need it!) We just like to keep things simple. So, please do not feel that your hand has been slapped when we lock a duplicate topic.

Hey, it's been done to me on a couple of occasions, and I still talk to Keith B and Crossfire.

Here's another idea.
When I log in I click on the link near the top of the page that is "View active topics" which
gives me all the recent posts no matter what board section they are in.
Makes it easy to keep up with what is recently happening on the board.

I use that and "View Your Posts" almost exclusively. In fact, when I post a new topic, I usually have to pause a second to remember that the forum is actually organized into different categoriesRoyGBiv wrote:I set this page as my primary bookmark for accessing this site...Reserve161 wrote:hen I log in I click on the link near the top of the page that is "View active topics" which gives me all the recent posts no matter what board section they are in.
