Today's Dallas Morning News had a very long editorial by a New Orleans reporter decrying NO's horrendous crime rate.
The reporter points out various causes including the emigration of the nasties from the blighted areas of the city into other areas that had historically lower crime rates, and suggests that the solution needs to be local, rather than state and federal.
My answer was:
One of the contributing factors to New Orleans' crime crisis is the crime spree committed by city officials, led by Mayor Nagin, and abetted by other state and local officials during the storm, when they stole legally owned firearms from law abiding citizens under the color of authority.
Those same law abiding citizens have been trying to get their legal property back from New Orleans ever since, even suing Nagin etal, only to have the city defy the results of those lawsuits and refuse to return their lawful property, depriving them of the means to defend themselves from the rats deserting the blighted areas of the city.
Yes, the solution to this crime crisis must be local, the city must give up its defiant attitude and return the illegally confiscated firearms to the law abiding citizens so that they can have a measure of ability to defend themselves, locally. As long as the predators are aware that their potential victims are disarmed, they will take advantage of the city governments' collusion and attack at will.
