I've done several dozen online purchases either from dealers or from individuals, some requiring FFL, most not. All have gone (knock on wood) extremely well, and I'm lucky to have a local guy who does FFL transfers for $10. Luckily some sites I visit have an indicator of how trustworthy a seller/purchaser can be and that goes a long way for buying/selling from an individual.

I made quite a few of these through Heritage Firearms (North Austin) with no issues and at a good price. Don't know if they are still the same guys.

I buy lots of (all kinds of) stuff on the Internet and seldom if ever have any problem; the few little problems have been way smaller costs than the amount I save on practically every purchase.

I do like buying from a place where I can "comment" and "rate" the seller (Amazon and eBay would be good examples but they don't do actual firearms AFAIK) -- this way the reputation of the seller is both checkable and at risk if he doesn't follow through properly.

I like paying with PayPal (or something similar) since I can put a hold on the funds if things don't work out; credit cards are second choice here, but better than cash even though some people (try to) charge extra for card purchases.
