I was considering an M1 from CMP but ended up purchasing one from GarandGuy because I would be using it in the Garand matches at the local club I am a member of.
For anyone who would like to shoot in Garand matches in the Houston area go to http://www.bayourifles.org. They have their schedule posted online. Matches cost $20 including ammo, $5 if you are under 18. You don't have to be a member to compete.
The range is south of Houston off 288 and has ranges from 3 yards to 1000 yards.

Mike1951 wrote:Great news! Just received shipping confirmation on the Springfield service grade. Fedex should deliver it Monday.

The H&R SG will hopefully only trail it by a few weeks.

Any word on your H&R?

I just got word that CMP received a batch of Greek returns.

They commented - "The make-up of the M1's in the 102,000 gun lot is interesting. Once again, Harrington & Richardsons are found in large numbers. A quick sample examination, however, reveals that some of them are in suberb condition, suggesting that Collector Grade HRA's might again be available in the future.Unfortunately for collectors, the number of International Harvesters is pitifully small. The serial lists indicate less than 100 are in the whole lot of Greek returns."

I have my paperwork and I was about to send it in to CMP - but I may change it from Springfield to H&R....

Well, I forgot what all I posted here. The H&R order appeared in the e-store exactly one week after the Springfield, so I was hoping it would ship last Friday and be here Monday. But the H&R still just shows 'processing'. I imagine that Monday, I'll have the order open and hit 'refresh' about every 3 seconds.

I haven't had a chance today to check the CMP forum, but will follow the Greek returns with great interest.

I hope they get more Winchesters. I'd love a nice one to go with the Winny carbine I'm WAITING for. :hurry:

Arrrrrghhhh!!!

The site shows a serial number for my H&R and a Fedex Express tracking number, but it must not have been picked up today because the tracking info isn't in the system.

It actually arrived yesterday. The metal on the H&R is probably equal to the Springfield, but where the Springfield came with a new, stained but unfinished stock, the dark red H&R stock must have seen use, as it has plenty of small dings (character).

So while the SP might be purdier, I still believe you get every bit of what you pay for.

The SP was made in 1954, the H&R in 1955.

I'm not sure when I'll be able to take TE / MW measurements.

Have you had time to shoot your beauties yet? Tell me about it....if you have!
