New Kimber! I've gone 1911!

Post by Tactical_Texan_CHL »

I just picked up a new carry gun this past Saturday. I've been toying with the idea of going to the 1911 for my primary concealed carry, and I finally made the plunge. I still love my Glocks, but once I got the Raptor, the 1911 bug just took hold of me and hasn't let go! First, I picked up a DeSantis Scorpion kydex IWB holster for the Raptor to try out carrying the 1911. I liked it and it was comfortable, but the grip is just a bit too big. So I decided, since I was happy with the 1911 in general, it was time to bite the bullet and get a compact 1911. I couldn't be happier. It conceals better in the holster than my Glock 30 does using just the Clipdraw. I wore it around the house all day Sunday after church and it's really comfortable. It'll be a few weeks till I can make it to the range to break it in. So far, it hasn't even seen a round yet, or even a loaded magazine. The holster is for a full size 1911, but I can either get another one, or maybe get the Dremel after the extra Kydex. It's not too bad anyway. I may just leave it in case I decide to throw the full size on once in awhile. Here are some pics of the new girl. Sorry, I haven't figured out how to make my pics smaller! She's a Kimber Ultra Covert II. The Crimson Trace laser grips are cool, especially in the camo. He also threw in a couple of Kimber mags for free!
Here's the stainless match bushingless bull barrel (pointed in a safe direction by the way, not at my head!)

Congrats on your new blaster. I look forward to your range report.

Glock will forgive you with open arms when you come back :smilelol5:

Anyway... a very nice looking gun... the digital cammo looks better than I would figure it would.

Pics of field strip. The dissassembly tool is visible also. I wasn't sure how it would be taking down the bushingless barrel, but it was no problem at all with the supplied tool. Easy as pie! I fixed the date in my camera by the way! ;-) I noticed it was off in the other pics. I need to clean off all the factory supplied goo now! Too bad I can't take it out for awhile. I really want to break it in and carry it! I have 500 rounds of UMC 230gr FMJ's, 100 rounds of Speer Gold Dot 230's, and 50 rounds of HydroShocks to run through it. If it shoots well with them, I'll be carrying the Gold Dots. Hope to have range report in a couple of weeks. I have some out of town trips coming up and that will be the first range trip I can make!

Welcome to the 1911 Club. :cheers2: I carry a Kimber Ultra Carry II and a S&W 1911 fully size. both are .45 cal and I wouldn't trade a 1911 for another kind of handgun if they gave it to me. :thewave

Cool.

I just bought a Pro Carry II this past week. Haven't even had time to clean it yet. With your report of "factory supplied goo", I'm certainly not going to neglect the published break-in procedures, as tedious as they may seem.

BTW, pick up a few large paper clips and keep near your Kimber.

In a pinch, you can bend one into a working takedown tool in nothing flat.

Congrats! It does Longtooth's heart good to see new 1911s being holstered.

My main go-to guy is your Carry II's cousin, an Ultra CDP. I carry it in a Comp-Tac MTAC. I don't have the nifty Crimson Trace grips, though. I put a pair of Chip McCormick slim-line grips on mine, which reduced the grip thickness by another 1/8 inch. Easy to carry, easy to conceal, and I'm one of those guys who simply prefers .45 ACP when given the choice.

:clapping: Great looking pistol. 1911's are VERY addictive. I have a few tupperware pistols as well, but my 1911's are by far my favorite to shoot.

I've thinned my collection to 4 main Pistols, 2 for Summer and 2 for Winter carry.
Summer - Stainless Pro carry II (bobbed) and/or Springer EMP (which I still have not received yet after 3 Months of waiting)!
Winter - Wilson Combat Protector and/or Browning Hi Power.

Still have 2 "J" frames for BUG's. ;-)

Congrats on the Kimber, you will LOVE IT! :woohoo

Right click on your pictures and open in Paint. Go to image then stretch/skew. Put in how much you want change the size in percentages, real easy. Example: if you change to 50% then your pic will be half the size. If you save with a different name then you can have your original and an uploadable copy.

My congrats to you Tac. I'm sure you will be happy with your investment. That is a sweet set up and sounds like a good bonus with the extra mags. Shoot safe and have fun!

I carry a Pro CDPII and am very satisfied with it.
