High Capacity 22lr Pistol Mags?

Post by Carry-a-Kimber »

A little rant. I just don't get it, nobody makes a high cap 22lr pistol magazine. I have a 1911 22lr convertion kit with a 10 rd magazine and I would love to have a higher capacity mag but they can't be had. You could easily fit 20 rounds into the magazine and blast away. A box of 22lr could almost fit in the magwell of my LCP. An LCP sized pistol that held 15-20 rounds of 22lr would be a hot seller. I know 22lr isn't a defensive round, but what if you hit a BG with a dozen of 'em? A Sig Mosquito with a 30 round mag, why not?? With the size of a double stack Glock mag that holds 15 rounds of 45 ACP you could squeeze in 40 or more rounds. Maybe I can do some experamental spring work with mine and see what happens. :evil2: Maybe its just me...

I believe one of the problems is the difficulty in making a double stack .22 LR (which I've never seen). The reason for this seems to be .22 LR being a rimmed cased round. If you really want a high capacity .22, Kel-Tec makes a 30 round .22 MAG pistol http://www.kel-tec-cnc.com/pmr30.htm.

The rim on the .22 is the culprit. Look at the 25-30 round mags for the 10-22. They are all curved to allow the rounds to feed without rim lock.

I also would love to have a pocketable .22 semiauto with decent ammo capacity.
I'd settle for a pocketable .22LR pistol.
Closest I've found is my Astra Cub, but it's .22 short only.
Ideally, sell me a .22 conversion slide for my Sig P238.

In the meantime, I sure do want a PMR30.
