Difference between CZ 75 Compacts?

Post by Stupid »

What's the difference between CZ 75 Compact, CZ 75 D PCR COMPACT and CZ P01?

I can only tell the PCR has alloy frame. What's more besides that?

Been there and back before I posted the question. Very confusing website.

The P01 has the rail under the barrel and uses the decocker with no safety. It uses the same mags as the 75 compact.

Okay, the web site shows the 75 compact with the rail also, but with a safety instead of a decocker.

The PCR looks like it is without the rail and with a decocker.

It looks like they are just different versions of the same pistol, but there might be more if you dig. They do seem to use the same mags.

Yep. CZ75D PCR = D for decocker, so first shot is DA unless you manually cock the hammer (I don't).

It was my first carry pistol, and still one of two in primary rotation. Mine came with two 14-round magazines, and I have added several more. Two are kept full of JHP and the rest carry FMJ.

Thanks. That really helps. If I want safety, CZ 75 Compact is the one to go, right? It seems awfully heavy at 2.4 lbs.

The only reason I specifically mentioned the 14-round magazines is the CZ up for sale, which came with 10-rounders.

Are they are all pretty easy to carry?

I used to collect CZ pistols---don't do it any more, but still have most of my collection and all of my opinions.

You can get or make 16 round mags for the CZ PCR and Compact. The mags from the full size CZ 75 fit when mated with the baseplates from an SP-01 I believe it is. Verify that I am right about the exact parts, or just just buy the mags already assembled from Angus Hobdell at CZ Custom as I did. It's the best place to buy CZ stuff in my opinion. Angus will also do any custom work you might want.

I normally carry a 5" 1911, but my "little" gun for deep cover or summer wear is a customized PCR. IMHO, with the right holster I think it's almost as comfortable to carry as the S&W snubbie I used to have for that purpose. The big advantage being that the PCR with the larger mags will hold 17 rounds including the one in the pipe.

There is/was an older version of the Compact that looks like a PCR but was all steel. The only advantage I see to that model over the PCR is the greater weight if you want the recoil reduction, and the fact that it is one of the few pistols you can buy with a nickel finish, which I happen to love. But CZ has apparently dropped that model from its website and lists only the new version CZ 75 Compact which has a rail and looks like a PO1 (also available in satin nickel). BTW, you can manually decock the models with the safety if you don't mind doing that.

Finally, the PO1 is a terrific pistol, a joy to shoot, but for carry I like the slightly narrower (at the muzzle) PCR.

It's also the frame used on the CZ-40P. :fire

Don't forget the CZ 75 P-07 DUTY.

CZs new polymer framed pistol. It doesn't share anything with the CZ 75. I haven't shot a CZ 75, but what I can say is the P-07 is an absolute joy to shoot and I use it as my daily carry.

Much lighterthan the CZ 75 as its polymer, and comes with 2 16rd magazines. With its polymer frame the grip is about as thin as a single stack .380, or a 1911, but is still double stack and high capacity. The slide is bulky for carry, but not any worse than a glock or XD, I carry it every day in a cheap don hume holster and its relatively comfortable and conceals well.

Edit: one more thing, it comes with a sig style decocker, but it also comes with a traditional safety that you can swap out in like 30 seconds if you wanted to carry it with a traditional safety. I like the design, you can decide from safety or decocker or go back and fourth.
