Question about being around convicted felon

Post by couzin »

I need some help here and cannot find a straight answer in the TC CH laws book. If I, in my home, were to allow a family member (a convicted felon still on probation for a non violent crime) into my home for a normal day or overnight visit, or possibly to live for a while, what kind of trouble could that cause me as a CHL holder? Is a felon prohibited from being around guns? What if I were to visit this person in their home while carrying?

The key phrase (for the felon) is "constructive possession".

Basically, if he knows about and can have unhindered access to firearms, and the AUSA wants to make a case of it, he gets an automatic 5 years federal time for "felon in possession".

And just by the by, it doesn't matter if the state allows felons to possess firearms after a certain period. If the feds want to make a case of it, they will, and they'll win. I've seen a lot of these cases cross my desk. Too many.

Any reason why you just can't post the information here? If so, could you PM the info to me as well? Thank you.

No offence intended, I kinda feel this information is more personal and sensitive, and better left through private communications...And not out here in the public eye...

I will be glad to send this information/discussion to you via PM, at least my side of the issue...Thats not a problem at all...

Its not a lot of information, but its from an extremely credible sourse...

This is a good thread and now I'm curious as well. Please send me the info. My situation is slightly different in that I am around the Con sometimes at club meetings and activities. Gee do ya think attempted murder is a non-violent crime ? :)
He is always nice to me though.

OK I gota know too.

Back when I worked for a living before this whole student thing. I worked with a felon, decent guy was legitimately trying to clean up his life but just made a few stupid mistakes in life. I didn't have a CHL (or a pistol, for that matter) back then but I would occasionally have rifles in my truck so I could hit the range on my way home. Anyway, every now and then we would have to make a delivery together in my truck. Well one time it so happened that we needed my truck and I had the rifles with me. Knowing that if I got pulled over it could be bad for me and worse for him I confronted the warehouse manager to see if we could take separate vehicles, or if I could make the run on my own. Now I knew the warehouse manager and company owners were all very gun friendly (I actually had taken the owner’s son and grandson to range once). The manager offered to let me lock them in the storage room, and give me the keys, if I’d let him ogle them at the end of the day. Could have been a sticky situation and I was LUCKY to have such understanding gun nuts for bosses.

Had that not been the case I have no idea what I would have done.
