Re: Nervous

Welcome to the addiction!

I was a little nervous the first time I pulled the trigger on one of my reloads. Sounds like you have been very careful and I don't expect you'll have any surprises.

Re: New reloader here

Hodgdon Clays (Not Universal Clays), is a really good powder for .45ACP as well.

Re: Casting your own Boolits

I'm using Lee molds that are clones of the H&G 68 design, except that they have a beveled base.

Re: Casting your own Boolits

Part 3 With the bullets I have purchased, I ALWAYS get leading in the barrel. I have tried bullets of 12, 14, and 21 BHN, all with varying degrees of leading after firing. I purchased a Lewis Lead Remover (LLR) just to make cleaning easier after a shooting session. When I returned home from shooting...

Re: Casting your own Boolits

Part 2 With these supplies, I put about 25 lbs of WW in my cast iron pot, put that on top of my propane turkey fryer (outside, on concrete, under cover to prevent ANY stray water from getting into the molten lead), and cranked up the heat. After about 15 minutes of some SERIOUSLY stinky smoke coming...

Casting your own Boolits

I’ll start by saying that I love to tinker with things and I tend to go overboard with any hobby I undertake (much to my wife’s chagrin)…. I’m writing this post to chronicle my recent casting/reloading efforts in the hope that it encourages someone out there to take the plunge and start reloading or...

Re: Curious about reloading

Good data. Thanks. Ok ... the question that always gets asked ... Is there a checklist somewhere as to what equipment is needed? How about a review of said equipment so that I don't buy junk? what about a decent source for supplies. I've made note of a couple vendors mentioned in here. A good place...

Re: Which powder for .45acp?

FWIW, i loaded some 230gr LRN with 4.0 gr Clays, got an average of 730fps. Nice soft recoil (maybe equates to the "mouse fart" load you are looking for. Pretty darn accurate out of my 5" 1911. Loaded the same bullet with 4.1 gr Clays and averaged 814 fps. Still a nice recoil but a bit...

Re: Which powder for .45acp?

I've been using Clays with very nice results. It was recommended to me by a co-worker who has been using it exclusively for .45 ACP for the past several years.

Re: Tumbling brass?

BTW, I hear that you can get tumbling media cheaper by going to pet supply stores and get the (walnut?) media used to line reptile tanks. Very true. I bought a 10 lb bag of crushed walnut shells at the pet store that is designed for lining a bird cage. Cost was about $10. The stuff looks identical ...

Re: Pics of your reloading area

Here is a pic of my recently completed reloading area. Mounted the press to a piece of 2x12 so that I can move it off the bench to make room for other projects as needed. I also built shelves to hold empty brass and bullets instead of spending the money to buy the ones Dillon makes....cheaper that w...
