Re: How often do you go to the range / practice shooting
At least twice a week. Apart from 2 days travelling I've been on the range shooting every day for the last 3 weeks. 5 hours / day this week. Special circumstances. Lotsa fun though

Straybrit, I assume from your username that you too are British. Where did you come from? How long have you been here?

Re: 6.8 AR as "The One Gun" ?
Not to get too off topic, but if the OP didn't want to do the class III / tax stamp, would an AR pistol in 300 BLK be anything worth having? I don't know too much about the 300 BLK round, but seem to remember reading/hearing the 300 BLK recoil wasn't that bad.

Re: 6.8 AR as "The One Gun" ?
Do you reload?
TAM - I shoot bullseye pistol. You either reload or have a trust fund for the ammo bill
That's one reason a 308 is a nice idea - I already have the dies.
I really wonder how effective/accurate the 308 is out of a 16" barrel though. Seems you have to get down to that to ...

Re: 6.8 AR as "The One Gun" ?
Yeah - I can see why. Didn't really know that existed until your post. Very very nice. Now you've got me thinking of that with the 12" barrel and a suppressor for home defense. Wonder how hard it is for a furriner to get the licence for one of those?gigag04 wrote:300BLK for me...want it badly

Re: 6.8 AR as "The One Gun" ?
curious if you're absolutely settled on the AR platform.
Not at all - I'm an engineer so I like to go from requirements as opposed to justifying a notion (not that I'm above that when required ;-) ). So I'm looking at as light as possible, small as possible with enough punch to take out a hog ...

Re: 6.8 AR as "The One Gun" ?
There is no "one gun," otherwise the military would issue it for all purposes
Ah - but I did take the trouble to list the operational boundaries ;-)
I would choose one in .308 for several reasons

6.8 AR as "The One Gun" ?
OK - I've finally admitted that with a full time job, raising teenagers, handgun competitions and all the rest I just don't have the time (or the money) to get competent with more than one long gun.
So (and assuming I keep a 22-250 for small stuff) I'm looking for opinions on building an AR in 6 ...

So far the best shop I've found is Heritage (intersection of Anderson Mill and 183). Reasonable with trade-ins and don't bull you like some of the 'better known' outlets. Yeah - I've got a British accent - but telling me that I need a 9mm because "that's the best size and that's why everyone has one ...

Re: Springfield XDm 45 Compact
Just to briefly update this - I decided to see how good a group it would hold this morning. Using ball ammo at 25yds, unsupported, 2 hands, not hurrying - taking 12-15 seconds for 9 shots it will nicely put 90% of the shots in a ragged 3" hole and the others were poor trigger control. That's with ...

Re: Springfield XDm 45 Compact
Don't think I'm knocking the gun - I love mine.
SA has specifically developed that trigger package as a carry option and I think it's a pretty nice compromise
I would heartily agree with this - I think it's a lovely balance between control and 'knowing that you're pulling it'. I was just ...

If you're a 1911 guy, I'll be interested to see how this compares in terms of accuracy from your perspective....I think you're going to be pleasantly surprised.

Re: whats the easiest way to ship a handgun?
In my experience (shipping my competition guns for servicing) get the receiver to fax you a copy of his FFL and take that along to UPS. As long as the name and address match even California UPS will take it. They don't like it - but they will take it.
FedEx in NorCal will take them - but the twice ...

XDm 45 in a Jacket Pocket?
Thats what i was thinking ...
It's the compact (3.8") and it fits nicely in the inside pocket of my leather jacket. Unfortunately the weight is starting to split the cloth - so that's been discontinued ;-)
As an aside - now I've got my supertuck - I'm not ...
