Re: Hunt ISD teachers can now carry

While poking around I discovered that a school at Callisburg ISD had actually used its Guardians. This was back in 2015 but I just ran across it today:
A protective plan of action known as the “Guardian Plan” was put into play Monday when gunshots heard near Callisburg High School caused the implementation of a “soft-lock down” at the school.

In a soft-lock down, all exterior doors are locked and guardian team members, trained teachers and ISD personnel who may carry or have access to weapons, stand guard at the outside of each entrance to the school. No one is allowed outside the school until the situation is declared over.

Re: Hunt ISD teachers can now carry

I updated my earlier post to put Gatesville and Wylie ISDs into the column of schools that have either a "Guardian" or School Marshal program. Go here to see the whole list: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=66105&p=810414#p810414" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Also, the Wall Street Journal published an article a few days ago, on 8/25/14, More Texas Schools Allow Armed Employees, that cites the Texas Association of School Boards as saying there are at least 78 schools out of 1024 that have adopted a "guardian" program.

Re: Hunt ISD teachers can now carry

2farnorth pointed out in another thread that Bonham ISD has joined the club of schools that have armed "ordinary" staff (e.g. teachers, administrators, not just police officers or dedicated guards.

Add Bonham to my post earlier in this thread that lists all the schools I have read about doing something similar: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=66105&p=810414#p810414" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Hunt ISD teachers can now carry

texasag93 identifies another: Argyle ISD

I added this to my comprehensive list in the post way up yonder in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=66105#p810414" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I also moved one school from the "maybe" to the "nope" column, and made some other small changes.

Would love to see the wording in your handbook. Would like to work on better wording in ours.
Run (and win) for school board with a couple of your like-minded compatriots, and change the wording yourself to join the other 25 or so school districts that permit CHL carry. ;-)

I know of a couple of more but they have not gone "public" so I will respect their privacy until it breaks in the news or otherwise becomes public knowledge. I suspect there are many more ISDs operatiing on the quiet.
I know a large district here in DFW that is supposedly doing the "on the quiet" thing.
Unless they are private schools, I don't see how they can do this "on the quiet" or without going "public."

treeman wrote:I know that Harmony ISD had taken down their "No guns allowed on campus" signs and replaced them with signs that say "NOTICE some staff have been authorized to carry concealed weapons for the protection of our students." I did not see an official announcement in any paper.
I too think it is sad that any school, church, or anywhere has to think about how to protect folks, but it is worse to have areas set up where the "good guys" don't have a way of protecting themselves or anyone else.
Works for me.

I also added Palmer ISD.

and West Hardin ISD.

and Childress ISD.

and Shamrock ISD.

It was a sadder day when schools decided that guns were evil and even the depiction or mention there of had to be kept away from student and teacher alike...

Re: Hunt ISD teachers can now carry

treeman wrote:Harmony ISD, located in East Texas, is also allowing concealed carry for some faculty.
I added Harmony to the "maybe" list, because I can find news articles that say the school board is considering it, but can't find any that say they approved it. Do you have a reference?

While I was at it I discovered that Westwood ISD moved from "maybe" to "approved," so updated my list accordingly. Also added Cayuga ISD to the "approved" list. ;-)
