Re: What were your political leanings at 18 years old?

I honestly don't remember being politically minded at all at 18 years old (too many other distractions, I suppose! ) I do remember giving careful consideration and voting for Ronald Reagan in 1980. I was about 26 years old by then. My dear old dad, God rest his soul, was a yellow dog Democrat,...

Re: The Master Gun Control Plan

Here's a thought that just hit me. I'm no historian, so an honest question here. And I know it's not an apples-to-apples comparison, but the answer might be of some interest in relation to the current situation: how did it go when fully auto machine guns and short barrel rifles and shotguns were eff...

Re: The Master Gun Control Plan

As some others have said, that's the way I see it going, too, if the ban somehow were to be passed. That is, few turned in voluntarily, even fewer forcibly confiscated. So, thru non-enforcement, you might get to keep your "illegal" weapon. But you won't be able to use it: if you take it to the range...

Re: Off The Beaten Path - Mineola, TX

Yep, Mineola is a neat little town. Growing, like everything else around this part of the state, but still a neat little town. They have a small AMTRAK train station there. We've taken our kids, and later our grandkids, there to catch the train, then ride it over to Ft. Worth and spend the weekend t...

Re: Ashura festival in Iraq

This practice has been around for thousands and thousands of years, since long before Mohammed came along. Funny thing is, it's as useless now as it was back then. But hey, more power to 'em! 26 And they took the bull that was given them, and they prepared it and called upon the name of Baal from mo...

Re: Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick attacks NRA and Supports expanded background checks

Here is most of an email I received from Dan Patrick today. <snip> Currently, 80% of all gun sales include a background check. Of the 20% that don't go through a background check, we believe about half are transfers between family members. Federal officials estimate that the remaining 10% of guns s...

Notice in the linked article it includes a tweet from CVS stating "do not bring firearms into our stores." Doesn't say "not open carried firearms" it says "no firearms."

So there's that...

Re: Gov. Abbott Issues Executive Orders

Well, that's great and all... I guess. My immediate question is though, once they do "identify potential mass shooters or terroristic threats" (from order #4), what are they going to do about it? Is this all just a precursor for a red flag law? If not, what? Maybe I'm just misunderstanding something?

Re: Would you support this gun private purchase restriction

Interesting. Your suggestion is interesting, but I was more referring to my response to your question. I had typed out a long well stated (IMHO) response and reasoning and my feelings about several related subjects. But after reflecting on what I had written, and considering today's climate, let me ...

Re: Texas Lt Gov calls for end to private gun sales?

A loophole is something that occurs unintentionally when a law is passed; an accidental and/or unintended consequence that allows an action to occur which seems to skirt the law - an action which the author(s) of the law did not foresee. If I recall correctly (which I may or may not - I'm pretty old...

Re: Reported: Active shooter in Odessa, TX

A real tragedy, no doubt. Prayers for all who have been affected. I wish I had an effective answer to stop this kind of thing, but I don't. But I'm afraid our politicians are definitely going to take a big swing at their version of "the answer." The status quo in Texas is unacceptable, and action is...
