Many Foreign Tourists -- and Most Foreign Students -- Are Barred from Going to Shooting Ranges

[1.] Federal law, 18 U.S.C. § 922(g), bans gun and ammunition possession not just by felons, illegal aliens, illegal drug users, and the like, but also by aliens who have been perfectly legally "admitted to the United States under a nonimmigrant visa." [2.] "Possess[ing]" and "receiv[ing]" has been...

It seems like they would fly further. < or is it farther?> Farther. Farther relates to distance: The casings would fly farther. Further relates to degree: If you give him a chance, he will argue his point further. EXCEPT THAT, if you are a descriptivist instead of a prescriptivist, you'll say the d...

Unfair to use an AR-15 against would-be burglars?

I just saw a link to this story, though it's almost two years old. An Oklahoma homeowner kills three night-time burglars. The grandfather of one of the thieves announces that the AR-15 made the fight unfair. https://www.theblaze.com/news/2017/04/02/grandfather-of-oklahoma-teen-killed-by-homeowner-in...

Re: TX: San Antonio 7-11 clerk shoots robber

A tragedy for the 17-year-old and his family, but a happy ending for society. I don't know how to begin to alter a street culture that celebrates thuggishness. But in the meantime, we should stay alert and armed.

Democrat Plan for Gun Control--most current step

The push to ban such sales will be spearheaded by Rep. Mike Thompson (D-CA), who wants to require a background check before a homeowner is allowed to buy a gun from his neighbor or an employee buys a gun from a co-worker or employer. He even wants a son to get a background check before a father can...

I tell people I'm a former Marine because I know that, 45 years later, I couldn't hope to cut the mustard physically.

Article on Slippery Definitions of "Assault Weapon"

Surveying various "assault weapon" laws and bills, the article describes the always-shifting definitions. According to gun ban advocates, "assault weapons" have been claimed to include: air guns and paintball guns; most handguns; all semiautomatic rifles; most shotguns; all slide action shotguns; a...

Re: Police struggle to stop flood of firearms into UK

If a comparatively small island nation cannot control the influx of firearms, what can the lefties hope to achieve here? An otherwise intelligent friend recently commented that, if we banned guns, we'd have many fewer of them and gun crime would decrease. I mentioned the bang-up job we do keeping dr...

Do some courts underenforce the Second Amendment?

This Fall, the Duke Law Journal held a symposium Heller at Ten: A Symposium on From Theory to Doctrine. All of the articles are, at least partially, responses to an article Eric Ruben and Joseph Blocher that analyzed data for all post-Heller cases, from 2008 until early 2016. From Theory to Doctrin...

Tough to Claim Self Defense if You Don't Testify

Defendant on trial for shooting of another wants to rely on self defense but also wants to rely on his 5th Amendment right not to testify against myself. In this case, at least, that was too tough a row to hoe. Vasquez was tried on a charge of murder. At trial his attorney argued that Vasquez shot W...

Yes, and in my Neighboorhood those of us that have the cameras are vilified for posting "innocent kids" doing stuff...
"Innocent" and "doing stuff", an interesting juxtaposition. Tell them that, if the kids are doing stuff, they're not innocent.

Re: The next incremental infringement?

Background check for any sale or TRANSFER. How will they define "transfer." The Dems will want to define it as broadly as possible. If I'm target shooting with a friend and he asks to shoot a few rounds through my .45, will that require a background check? I have a Savage .22magnum/410 shotgun over-...
