Earlier I said I was browsing on Safari, I meant to say Chrome. I was thinking about my phone. Just the same, it never logs me off. Maybe something in your browser settings? Very strange. When you figure it out, let us all know in case we start having the issue.

I just noticed in my user control panel under profile, there is a "remember me login setting" . It says this, "The "Remember Me" login keys automatically log you in when you visit the board. If you logout, the remember me login key is deleted only on the computer you are using to logout. Here you can see remember login keys created on other computers you used to access this site."
That may or may not be the issue but I thought I would mention it.
No, that's the screencap I posted earlier, where I found the list and dates/times of the "remember me" keys. And this is the only PC or device I've used to access the forum in, oh, about a year. Don't use my phone to do it, and don't use either of the other two PCs 'cause they're each involved in work stuff. Oh, and I don't manually log-off the forum, just close the browser.

But we know the forum uses cookies, and after clearing what was there previously, I can't find the new cookies anywhere. If you're game, you might try deleting your existing texaschlforum.com cookies and then see if it doesn't start automatically logging you out, too. The old cookies that were on my system had relatively short expiration dates in them (I think 60 days, but I didn't make note of that), and it may just be that a lot of forum users have not yet had the old cookies expire.

Also, I just noticed that all my URLs while on the forum are now showing a session ID key after what used to be the normal URL, e.g., appending something like "&sid=03f02a2e7b2ef94c857e8a8f33a2ce." That never used to be there, and I suspect it's related to a particular session's "countdown clock."

Don't know why I'm so interested in the issue. I just can't resist the unknown. ;-)

I'm not crazy! :anamatedbanana

Well, at least not about this. The forum logged me out again since my last post, and this time I cleared all "remember me" keys, manually logged out, and then deleted the only three cookies on my system related to the forum...at least that I could find. Chrome doesn't allow you to search the contents of stored cookies, only the name or domain name. I know that at least the basic site cookies are being set properly because the three I deleted were dated yesterday, but I couldn't locate the actual text of the "remember me" keys on my PC to see where they were stored. Found a PhpBB knowledge base article that described incorrect cookie settings as being the most likely culprit for "remember me" not working, but from the info I saw in the three cookies I deleted, I sorta doubt that's the issue.

Anyway, I'll just quietly walk away now and leave the forum open in a browser tab, then check it again after a few hours, see if zapping the stored keys and deleting the cookies made any difference.

Re: Finally!!!!!!!!! The Forum is back.

Quick follow-up. Found the "Manage 'Remember Me' Login Keys" option on my user control panel. Yep; the board is definitely logging me out and every time I log back in it sets a new login key; I attached a screenshot showing the five unique keys set in two days, all for the same machine at the same IP address. I'll do some Googling and experimenting later today, but considering this is a plain-Jane Win 10 system with the latest (as in last Wednesday) updates and that I'm running the latest version of Chrome, I imagine I'm not the only one that may be seeing the...issue. It isn't a problem, but I'm just spoiled and used to being able to jump right on the board without logging in every time.

But...

I tend to stay logged-on with the forum up in a browser tab. Now, even after being sure I'm checking-off "stay logged in," I'm getting logged off after a couple of hours' inactivity and have to log in again. Happened three times so far since yesterday. No biggie, but I really like being able to look-and-run...er...as it were.

I keep mine open in a tab also. It never logs me off. I did check the option to remember me when I logged on. Maybe that is why. I browse using Safari.
I use Chrome (yeah, I know; but I have some add-ins I regularly use), and always tick "remember me" when I log-on. Interestingly, on my first visit following the restoral of service on the 12th it remembered me and logged me right on. Since then it's logged me off three times. If no one else is seeing this, I'll try manually clearing all forum-related cookies. I mean, it isn't a terrible problem; just inconvenient. This afternoon I checked the boards and posted, left the tab open, finished up a paper I was adding endnotes to, then came back a short while ago to check new posts. Had to log in again.

Jusme wrote: Tue Jan 12, 2021 6:41 am I hate to be a nit-picker, but I noticed, that in Recent Topics, when you open one, it sends you to the last post in the thread. I guess, it's not that big of an issue, but, If you haven't read the OP, you have to scroll back to the top, or even go back a page or two. I don't know if that is just part of the "new" design, a feature, or a glitch.
As I said, it's not a major issue. Glad to "see" everyone again.
Ya know, now that I've played around with it a bit, I actually like that change. I sometimes keep the forum open in the background during the day, and then hop over to it when I take a break. If I'd been keeping up with the posts in a medium-activity topic, clicking on the the last "page" number shown for that topic meant I had to start scanning from the top down to find when the new posts started. And of course clicking on the topic title took me to the top of the first page of any multi-page topic. With the new arrangement, page 1 of a topic is always displayed if there are multiple pages, so I can still click there to begin from the top. But the topic title now taking me to the most recent post is an option I didn't have before, and I think it's looking like a real time-saver.

Re: Finally!!!!!!!!! The Forum is back.

I fell out of my chair when I tried the forum again just now. I mean, literally. Spilled coffee everywhere, knocked over furniture. I'd checked it several times a day at first; then a few times a day; then once or twice a day; then about once every other day...

Woo hoo!

My dear wife had to tell me to stop talking to her about guns & gear & what the elections mean for the 2A. She listened politely at first, but her eyes were always glazed over.

I know all the work to get things up and running again had to have been frustrating and tedious. A great big Texas-sized Thank You!
