SB321 has been eligible for consideration since 12:20pm yesterday according to the House Calendar.
I think this resolution is due to the fact that the conference committee changed some parts of the bill that weren't in conflict in the House and Senate versions (including a section specifying that employers have no duty to secure the parking lot or ensure employees' compliance with the storage laws), which is technically out of the scope of what the conference committee can do.

Re: Action Needed: Employer Parking Lots
The section relevant to chemical plants and refineries is §52.062(a)(2)(F). They can prohibit employees other than CHLs from storing firearms in their vehicles. The House vrsion only allowed CHLs to store handguns in their vehicle; the conference committee allows any firearm.RandyM wrote:so section 52.061, B, does this mean a chemical plant or refiner can prohibit CHLs from having a handgun in their parked car, even if it outside the secured area of the facility?

Re: Action Needed: Employer Parking Lots
It looks like it is eligible for consideration 24hrs after the report is distributed. Both houses have until the end of Sunday to adopt the conference committee report.RHenriksen wrote:So... the conf committee report was distributed today, around noon.

I don't think they have much room to work in calendars, but it looks like they were able to make a few minor improvements.RHenriksen wrote:Looks like a benign report to me, but what do I know?

Probably whoever presides over the chamber--in this case Lt. Gov. Dewhurst.RHenriksen wrote:Just curious: who selects the conference committee members?hirundo82 wrote:It's hard to imagine a better bunch for our side than those.causeican wrote:The following people have been selected for the conference.

I sure hope they are on our side.
ETA: Senate rules confirm that--see p91:
The House has a similar rule, so Speaker Straus will appoint the conferees from the House.ARTICLE XII

No, bills reported from conference committee go directly to the floor for a vote. We won't have to deal with Calendars again.jerry_r60 wrote:Assuming the house team is ok as well, do we still have to worry about Calendars again?

Re: Action Needed: Employer Parking Lots
It's been on that list for almost two weeks, so I'm not sure when they'll get to it. Maybe soon--since the deadline for them to consider House bills passed last week they may have more time.Paragrouper wrote:I'm not sure what they are planning to do today, but SB 321 is listed on the Senate Calendar for today: http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/tlodocs/ ... navpanes=0

Re: Action Needed: Employer Parking Lots
Next step is back to the Senate to give them the chance to concur on the changes made in the House. If they agree, it goes to the governor. If not, it will go to the conference committee to work out a compromise, which will then need to be voted on (just up or down, no debate) by both houses before it goes to the governor.dac1842 wrote:Next stop the Governor's desk!
