I've heard this argument, too, and it is cut from the same cloth as "go along with the airplane hijackers." The easiest counter-argument to those who think that you make yourself a target with a gun is "concealed is concealed." The transition from concealment to action should be short enough that most BGs will not recognize it. By then, hopefully, it is too late for them to be able to worry about it.
