Re: Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick attacks NRA and Supports expanded background checks

I hear you but man, Patrick had always struck me as one of the hard core good guys. He relished getting in the faces of the left and calling out their nonsense. I don't get this one. Abbott seems to be waffling too. This is real bad. I swallowed hard on the bump stock ban but you can't rationalize t...

Re: Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick attacks NRA and Supports expanded background checks

Then the gun can be exchanged and the deal is closed. This is NOT a ban on private gun sales and this change in the law will NOT lead to a gun registry. If you believe that, I have ocean front property to sell you in Arizona. This. A registry is the entire point. Not a single mass shooting other th...

Re: Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick attacks NRA and Supports expanded background checks

This will turn Texas blue, and if Trump falls for it at the national level he and the national GOP are done, too. Sorry, this is the breaking point for me. I've tolerated the decades of equivocation on open carry, constitutional carry, and many other things because I realized the alternative was thi...

Re: Beto visits gun show in Little Rock.

NO! Private intrastate sales/transfers should not be forced through NICS or FFL or any other federal "one size fits all" solution, whether at a Gun Show out of the back of a pickup truck, or grandpa giving me his WWII bringback Luger. For one, because it is unconstitutional federal intrusion on a s...

Re: Beto visits gun show in Little Rock.

Are you suggesting that anyone can call the NICS and demand that a third party be placed on the list? I completely agree that the scope of background checks hasn't been a factor in mass shootings, but the failure of the NICS system to recognize meaningful and disqualifying mental illness has been a...

Re: Beto visits gun show in Little Rock.

I'm also fairly intolerant of people who want to hide behind the (very important) private sales exception to essentially run a business because my neighbor's dad growing up was an FFL. He kept it up as a side for his regular business, but it was mostly a service for friends and family to get firear...

Re: Beto visits gun show in Little Rock.

The gun seller said he would support a requirement that gun-show sellers like him get a federal firearms license. What does he mean "would support a requirement"? Does he mean that he would begin obeying the current laws if a new one were passed? If the ATF doesn't care now, why would they suddenly...

Re: Beto visits gun show in Little Rock.

The in the business of selling guns standard is reasonable, except that gun shows all have an ATF presence for running NICS checks. I'm not a big participant in gun shows, but my understanding is that selling off of your table with no NICS check in Texas essentially does not happen. That is not cor...

Re: So What Do They Want?

Taxes, especially on ammo. Requiring a license or background check to buy ammo. Permit fee for each firearm owned or to be purchased. Renewable annually. Mandatory insurance covering, I don't know, something. Because you own a gun. Restrictions on commerce, such as prohibiting firearms/ammo to be pu...

So basically he stays where he's not wanted because of family history and the 200-ish NJ employees who would likely lose their jobs. It's good that he cares about them, because NJ doesn't - they're doing everything they can to put him out of business. Right now they're focusing on AR's and semi-auto...

Re: CO: Teen infatuationed with Columbine massacre closes Denver Schools

An 18 year old can buy and take possession of a long gun out of state, correct? I thought it was only handguns that have to be transferred to an FFL in the buyer's state of residence if bought out of state (and minimum age is 21). Perhaps Denver has different requirements, I don't know. Otherwise, h...

I expect a SCOTUS decision on this.
Not until we get a replacement for Ginsburg and maybe even Breyer. They've been refusing to hear 2A cases for some time now.

Although this is a lot more than a 2A case at this point.

Re: Speaker Bonnen's betrayal of Texas gun-owners

I grew up in PA and have only been in TX for 20 years. I can't quite wrap my head around the rationale of appointing a minority party Chair to a committee. Was this to prevent Republicans from having to vote on potentially uncomfortable pro-gun legislation or is there some other Texas political tra...

So is it safe to assume that, once again, we're not going to get any teeth added to this statute this session?
