Re: Twice as much Money - His and Hers - Plastic 05/17

Congrats, yall made good time. My wife and I did the same thing this go round - hers is a first, mine I have had before but let run out too long. Mailed both on 4/7 - she just went from manufacturing to mailed yesterday. I am still in fingerprint review and BGC :banghead: :banghead: :banghead ...

A bit of history

Was enjoying an evening at the reloading bench - teaching a new shooter how to roll his own. He had already bought all his gear but we were working of my bench building some .45 acp when he commented on my dies - specifically why I had an extra. This led to talking about some of the different sets ...

Wilson Combat lo-Profile

One of the earliest holsters I ever purchased, the Wilson Combat lo-profile was an impulse buy. I had a serpa at the time and felt that it put my 1911 too far from my body to conceal. One of my local gun shops had ordered the wilson for another customer who never showed up.
Lo-profile is a high ride ...

Re: Oil question.

I have used imperial die wax on a slide that was prone to rusting, but it was a very light coat.

Re: Vacation recommendations

If you're in merkel then abilene is you next town with 'amenities' Might check out Frontier Texas while your there then swing a lil south and hit brownwood. You will find an ugly little place with some of the best BBQ in the state - UNDERWOODS - well worth the side trip.

Re: shooting your carry rounds

The magazine in the gun gets shot every time I go to the range, usually a couple times a month. However I do not carry the same gun all the time so realistically - every gun gets a fresh mag worth of carry ammo every month to month and a half.
Normal procedure for me is to shoot the mag in the gun ...

Re: Putting together a charity event?

I would recommend getting in touch with whatever venue would best suit your idea, indoor, outdoor rifle pistol shotgun...etc. They may have hosted something similar and already have a set guidelines appropriate for your event.
You might also find some folks with local experience that know what kind ...

Holster maker

Texas has no shortage of custom holster makers, just wanted to see if anyone has ever used or has any experience with Mike Cabrera - of Hawley Tx.
Apparently he makes leather/kydex tuckables similar to crossbreed. He has what he considers a few improvements - including water proof sued lining on the ...

Re: Mosin Nagant accuracy question

I've tried butch's, it does work but as george said - ammonia is what eats copper. Sweets has a thicker consistency, think ammonia gel, that seems to stick better - soaking the entire bore vs. running to the low side.
Household ammonia would probably do the same thing as butch's at 2-3 dollars a ...

Re: Mosin Nagant accuracy question

For severely copper fouled bores, particularly in old milsurp - I use SWEETs, nothing sweet about it btw. Follow the instructions and use either plastic or nickle jags/brushes. A less aggressive option is good old hoppes - plug your bore and fill er up, soak a while then go to scrubbing. IMHO ...

Re: Mosin Nagant accuracy question

Not sure if you are hand loader or not but.. Slug your barrel. Most euro 7.62 are .311 +\-. Priv ammo is usually pretty good but I have gotten some metric ammo loaded with .308 bullets. Not a lot of difference but it will show up on a target. Aside from that you can polish the action a bit, make ...

Re: My Dad was Just Diagnosed with Stage 2 Prostate Cancer

I know what you are going through - my father was diagnosed with cancer in december. It was one of the hardest pieces of information I have ever had to process.
He is very fortunate that it was caught early - its a good reminder for people, if there might be a problem GET IT CHECKED OUT. My dad ...

Re: Weapons that you DON'T regret selling or trading

Zombie threads... got to love 'em

Best and worst was the same model... AMT .45 backup - got one in a trade, thought what heck, took it to the range - would eat anything I stuffed in it and was pretty danged accurate. Carried it everywhere, was just something nice about 6 230gr hollowpoints in the ...

Re: "Carry or Not Carry That is the Question"

Carried at my wedding, wranglers and a western tux jacket OWB in my then new wilson lo-profile with the sharkskin trim (she said I had to dress up - rented a jacket and bought a fancy holster :cheers2: )
I would double check the venue first though, just to be on the safe side.
