Here are just a few talking points, but there's a lot more wrong with this bill than these few:
1. This bill makes it unlawful for persons under age 21 to participate in lawful shooting activities such as target practice, competitive shooting, hunting and others;
2. This bill so broad it would even prevent a soldier on leave from shooting an AR-15 at the range;
3. This bill would make it a crime for a father to hand an AR-15 to his son or daughter, much less let them shoot it, if they are under age 21;
4. This bill denies equal protection under the law by denying adults access to firearms that other adults may legally possess and use.
Rep. Burnam filed at least one anti-gun bill every session since he was elected in 1997, except for 2007 and 2009. The only reason he didn't file any during those two sessions is because she was humiliated when his last long-gun ban for persons under age 17 was hammered in a very anti-gun committee in 2005. F-Rated Wendy Davis called him on the carpet for what he was doing to kids responsibly using long guns.
It's time to send Rep. Burnam another message, not by calling his office, but by calling and/or faxing every member of the House Criminal Justice Committee and asking them to vote "no" on HB2807. Ask them not to leave it pending, but to vote "no" on this unnecessary, unfair, and harmful bill.
