At my age and with my political/legislative experience, I'm not surprised at this type of campaigning, but I'm certainly insulted that candidates feel comfortable treating their constituents like village idiots.

I agree Charles. Just onece I would like to see a campaign run based on the issues at hand instead of bashing the opposition. Can't anyone run a clean campaign anymore?
And I would like to see more votes cast in the election of a US President than an American Idol. As long as people are more interested in skeletons than issues, we'll be stuck with attack ads.

I was taken to the woodshed, and rightly so, for an emotional attack on Dewhurst in another post. There I learned Dewhurst has made significant behind the scene efforts on behalf of gun rights in Texas. I respect that and need him as the Lieutenant Governor, where he can continue to work on our goals. To me, a Cruz victory is a win/win for us. We gain Cruz and do not lose Dewhurst.

I am STILL a single issue voter. "2nd Amendment" for those of you that can't guess.
I can't see any difference between them.

It is more effcient to reduce turnout for your opponent, especially if you already have the name recognition, than it is to drive up turnout for yourself.
In low turnout elections, like a run-off, this effect is only amplified.
It is also hard to make nuanced and detailed political platform statements in a 30 second ad or a banner ad. Lengthy policy statements also lend themselves to being chopped up and taken out of context by your opponent, something that has been happening a lot lately.

To be honest, and I know there's plenty that would disagree with me, I wouldn't mind seeing Dewhurst step into the Perry's Gov slot and we get a young Lt Gov in place. Those of you that understand the Texas constitution know that the Lt Gov's role is MUCH more powerful than the Gov's.

I can handle Dewhurst as the Governor if, and only if, Greg Abbott is the Lt Gov.
