Austin training locations

Post by Kalrog »

Any suggestions on instructors or locations for training in the Austin area? I would prefer North Austin (up to Waco) over south Austin and Buda.

Specifically looking for handgun and advanced CCW instruction. I shoot, but that is a far cry from being properly trained.

Been years since I lived there.

I know there's an IDPA club in Austin. Not too familure with the club, but I think some of the guys are also ar15.com guys.

There used to be a nice indoor range (think it was in Round Rock)... can't remember the name.

Have you tried Red's Indoor range?

I know both of those and use them, but I was thinking some formal instruction time.

The next IDPA match is at the Hays County Sportsman's Complex on 19 June and I will be there ;-)

Any trigger time is good trigger time.

Austin clubs

There really isn't much right in Austin, most places you have to go considerably outside of the town to find any clubs or competitions. I know I'd go all the time if I just went once. It's really hard to go when it's so far away and you don't know the first thing about the competitions.
Halfway to San Antonio, Waco or out around Giddings. I'd like to know if there are some places that could show me what it's all about.

Hi Kilrog,

Here's a pistol training class near Austin (about 1 hr away) that I wanted to attend. But I can't make it to their prereq class due to a lack of free time on the weekdays, so I've not signed up.

Prereq taking place on 6/22-23

Adv. class taking place on 6/24-25

I think you can sign up thru texastactical@yahoo.com

Tiger Valley... havent been there but i have heard a lot of good things about them. they are just outside Waco.

http://www.tigervalley.com/

here is their directions:
Tiger Valley South

From Interstate 35 Exit 339 (Lake Waco / Lake Shore Drive exit), take Loop 340 eastward to HWY 84 (approximately 1 mile). *MAP* Proceed on HWY 84 East approximately 13 miles to Watt (sign on both sides of post on right). Continue to the top of the next rise. The main gate is on the left between two modular homes (behind the cell phone antenna). The range is to the west of LCR 126 (Joe Russell Road). Christmas Creek is approximately .3 mile east of the range.

Eastbound - 2.4 miles from flashing caution light at Highway 84 & FM939 to main entrance on north side of highway.

Westbound - 2.8 miles from Mobil station at Prairie Hill.

I like KRtraining.com.

Karl Rehn is a master class shooter/competitor. He lives/works in Austin but his range is east toward Giddings. His wife, Penny Riggs, is also a competitor/shooter and helps w/classes.

He also does force on force training w/air soft pistols.

Very good, very informative, very helpful.
