SB 273 is scheduled for public hearing on 3/2

Looks like the Senate is trying to get ahead on the 2A/gun rights issues.

Would be interesting to know who lit the fire?
Given that a lot of this momentum is coming from the Senate, Patrick is a likely answer.
Perhaps someone also "encouraged" Straus to move his Democrat friends out of positions where they cam obstruct gun bills.? Whoever that was deserves our thanks.

We'll see. I wouldn't count on Strauss just yet.

From my perspective I am not willing to give Straus any credit until he actually does something. The Senate is taking the lead but we also need the House to take the same approach and historically Straus has not been our friend. The bottom line is he has held up the calendar in the past which killed many Bills.

Well, in 2013, it was the Senate that pretty much killed HB 508 by adding that stupid amendment. It passed through the house with flying colors. As much as I don't trust Straus, he wasn't the problem with this bill.

Strauss is in a tough position. He had more opposition in his Speaker run this time than ever before, but the real worry are the reps that almost didn't vote for him. If he does anything too overtly that can be used by opponents of the reps in the next election, Strauss may lose their support quick. That, plus Dan Patrick's vocal personality and visions of Ann Richards, should keep him pretty cautious about opposing too many conservative positions.
