Since this forum's posts haven't been moved to the Crime Blotter yet, this looks like a good place:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

North Precinct detectives are investigating Thursday night’s gunfire in an outside courtyard of Tennessee State University that claimed the life of one person and sent two others to the hospital.

The deceased is believed to be a 19-year-old non-TSU student. His identity is expected to be confirmed later today. Two 18-year-old female students were wounded as innocent passersby. One of them has been treated and released from Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The other is in stable condition at Vanderbilt and is expected to fully recover. A third 18-year-old female student received a very minor graze and did not require medical treatment.

The investigation to this point shows that a dispute erupted over a dice game in the outside courtyard of the Floyd-Payne Campus Center. The dispute escalated into a physical fight. Witnesses reported that gunshots were suddenly heard, prompting the 10:52 p.m. call to TSU police. It was reported that several students saw the fight taking place and recorded it on their cellphones. Those with cellphone images are urged to share them with MNPD detectives who are working to apprehend the person(s) who indiscriminately placed people in danger by firing shots. Anyone with information can relay it to the police department, anonymously if need be, by calling Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Persons can also send an electronic tip by texting the word “CASH” along with the message to 274637 (CRIMES), or online at http://www.nashvillecrimestoppers.com.

This shooting was isolated to the outside courtyard. There was no known threat to students in dorms or elsewhere on campus. The MNPD’s crime scene team did recover a pistol in the darkness while processing the immediate area.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Surveillance video from Tennessee State University cameras made available to the MNPD Friday night shows at least two persons fired shots in the outside courtyard of the Floyd-Payne Campus Center Thursday.

MNPD technical experts were able to access and analyze the surveillance video after physically removing cameras from the TSU campus Friday night and bringing them to police headquarters where the recorded data was removed.

One video clip, linked below in normal speed and slow motion, shows two gunmen firing at a third individual. Detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the two shooters in the video clip. Anyone who knows their identities is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-74-CRIME. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward of $6,000 ($5,000 of which is being made available by the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms).

At this point in the investigation, it has not been determined whether Cameron Selmon, who was fatally wounded, was responsible for any gunfire.

Surveillance video shows that at least half a dozen individuals made cellphone still pictures or video recordings of a fight that immediately preceded the gunfire. Anyone who has those photos or recordings is asked to contact Detective Melody Saxon at 615-862-7805.
