Because it's poorly-promoted - period.

Heck, I'm a gun- and training-enthusiast who works at a school and I hadn't even HEARD of this qualification until I just *happened* to catch Scott B mentioning it in a sub-forum I rarely look into.
I don’t know how to promote it any more than sending letters to every superintendent in the three service centers in my area, at not a small cost. I got four responses. Two decided to use my services.

I’ve broken even, so that’s good. I was just expecting a little more interest. Maybe with time, and unfortunately, further incidents.

I also have it posted on my website.

The School Safety Course may, note I said "may," be more popular after the 2019 Texas Legislative Session.

Sorry, I should have been clearer - I meant promoted by DPS and /or Texas State Board of Education to schools ie. at an official state level to generate demand.

Aside from my interest in the subject-matter itself, a bonus for me was that the qualification is kept on record by DPS - sort of like an advanced LTC certification - so that might be another avenue to promote this cert.
And I should have been more clearer also. I wasn't flaming at you Andy. I'm kind of frustrated that schools aren't very interested, and more so with those that allow carry. I would think that schools that allow their faculty and staff to carry would be clamoring for the "Official State Certification" so they would have that in their defense. I trained one school that were more advanced and better trained than what the School Safety course offers but they wanted it in their hip pocket in case something happened.

DPS just confirmed me for the October class.

If anybody else from the board is in that one, let me know.

I mailed mine in end of January 2017. They cashed the check on Feb 10th. I'll be taking the course roughly a year and nine months after application.

I did have one small school system that was already sending their people to Active Shooter training at a local range. They decided on their own that they wanted the State certification, contacted me, and are paying me to travel to their location to teach multiple classes.

Maybe the word will get around.

Did you have to shoot revolver too on the LTC test reshoot?

No, one gun only.

I'm not sure what you are asking.
You only need one gun for the School Safety training.
If you are renewing your intructor's LTC training certificate, yes, you have to show proficiency with both.

I know, We (and teachers taking the SS class) have to shoot the LTC course at 90%, but they do not have to shoot it with revolvers, too.

They run you thru the LTC test at the front of the course. This is apparently the 'weed out' which is scary to think that an LTC instructor can't shoot the LTC test clean, let alone pass w/ 90%.

I was asking if we needed to do the full monty and also shoot a revolver. Asked and answered already.

Thanks,
