"Corners Were Being Cut": Baldwin Shooting Already Has The Makings Of A Blockbuster Tort Action
In the end, the liability may be delayed but will likely be considerable. What is clear is that personal injury lawyers will view the Bonanza Ranch as aptly named for civil litigation.
Since this didn't take place in California, Baldwin might not have as much overhead cover for his actions.

Yep. That's her. Her name is now all over the news, so no reason to worry about not using it. She's 24-year-old Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the daughter of Thell Reed, who's 79 and been around firearms and the movie industry most of his life. Evidently he's been teaching his daughter about firearms and they "really got more into the stuff more just really in the last couple of years."

Fox News ("Armorer on Alec Baldwin's 'Rust' set once admitted to being 'nervous' about abilities") reports that she appeared on the "Voices of the West" podcast last month (you can listen to the podcast episode from this link at Stitcher.com) where she admitted she was initially doubtful about her abilities to serve as a production armorer. She'd done one other film, Nicholas Cage's first Western, "The Old Way." I don't find her listed on the IATSE Local 44 website (https://local44.org/) and Google doesn't either, but that doesn't mean she wasn't a member...I think the odds are good, though, that this was a non-union shoot and that there were no certification or credentials required for the job.

From The New York Post yesterday evening, "‘Rust’ armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed once gave unchecked gun to 11-year-old actor: report": https://nypost.com/2021/10/23/rust-armo ... ild-actor/.
The “inexperienced” armorer in charge of weapons on set of Alec Baldwin’s movie “Rust” had given a gun to an 11-year-old actress without checking properly for safety, a report said.... Gutierrez-Reed’s alleged misstep happened on the set of the upcoming Nicholas Cage film, “The Old Way” and temporarily halted filming... “She was reloading the gun on the ground, where there were pebbles and stuff,” one source told the outlet. “We didn’t see her check it, we didn’t know if something got in the barrel or not.” Gutierrez-Reed reportedly handed the gun to child actress Ryan Kiera Armstrong, forcing concerned crew members to intervene, the report said.... “She was a bit careless with the guns, waving it around every now and again,” a source said.... A “Rust” production source described Reed as “inexperienced and green,” to the outlet, adding that there had been two other incidents of accidental discharges [prior to the killing of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins] by crew members.

9/11/21 ...Hollywood armorer Hannah Reed joins us. She’s just coming off her first movie serving as the lead armorer.
Wow!!! That's a seriously damaging interview, particularly combined with the TikTok video.

Unfortunately it wasn’t Alec Baldwin who was killed.

Western movie. Police are investigating.

Violate the rules, people die.

Update

“Actor Alec Baldwin discharged a "prop firearm" that killed a cinematographer and injured a the director of the movie Rust, being filmed on a set south of Santa Fe, a county sheriff's office spokesman said late Thursday.”

So he’s the killer.
bbq his rear in molasses
but how did a prop gun have real bullets

Being reported by Daily mail that the gun had been used for target practice by some of the crew when they were off duty.

It sounds as simple as they used a real gun (too cheap to buy an actual prop gun) as a prop... not a "prop gun" AND THEN VIOLATED JUST ABOUT ALL OF THE SAFETY RULES with it.

Yep. She made (another) poor decision ever agreeing to that podcast interview because a couple of the old codgers doing the interviewing clearly knew a thing or two about period-piece firearms. One of them mentions Remington swappable barrels, and then in the next breath they ask Gutierrez-Reed what different types of blackpowder firearms were on the set of the Nicholas Cage film. Her response was:
"Uh, it was mostly, oh, uh, Remingtons... There wasn't too many, you know; there wasn't a lot. There was a little bit of gunfire, but mostly just a couple of Remingtons."
And fast forward to 21:19 in the podcast when she's asked about the detail of the steps involved when an actor who has no experience with guns comes to get a firearm from her armory. Check out how much she mentions safety procedures and marvel at the depth of her displayed knowledge.

Her dad gave her a Colt Peacemaker last Christmas, and she also owns a Walther P22. That's the total extent of her personal firearm collection.

Sounds like she has very little real experience and no formal training.

The part where she says "all she knows is the wild west peacemaker stuff" and "she's gonna start branching out into other {weapon} stuff" is very cringe-worthy.

From three hours ago:

Alec Baldwin accidental shooting details emerge offering look at Halyna Hutchins' final moments
https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/a ... hins-death
"According to a search warrant executed by the Santa Fe County Sheriff's office, obtained by Fox News, the actor and crew were setting up a shot that required Baldwin to cross-draw a revolver and point the weapon at the camera. However, thanks to a shadow that was coming into the church structure from light outside, the camera had to be adjusted to a different angle. Baldwin was working with the director and the cinematographer demonstrating how he was going to draw his revolver from its holster and where his arm would be for the new shot. While demonstrating, the firearm went off."
Emphasis mine, because this is yet another of the plethora of examples of the media writing as if all firearms are imbued with artificial intelligence and simply act of their own accord.
"Souza [director Joel Souza] said three people were handling the gun for the scene. Armorer Hanna Gutierrez Reed reportedly handled prop guns left on a cart outside the structure they were shooting in due to coronavirus restrictions. Assistant director Dave Halls handed one of those guns to Baldwin.... Souza said in the warrant that the cast and crew prepared the scene before lunch and then had their meal away from the shooting location around 12:30 p.m. He was not sure if the gun was checked again when everyone returned from lunch. However, he stated that firearms are supposed to be checked by the armorer followed by the assistant director before handing them to the actor."
Again, my emphasis.

An aside, on social media I've seen a lot of folks mistakenly saying the trigger puller was Adam Baldwin. Adam Baldwin is not related to Alec Baldwin (at least not for generations), and Adam Baldwin is not anti-gun. Here's one example from RedState.com: "Actor Adam Baldwin Highlights Dangers of Red Flag Laws Using a Anti-Gun Activist's Ravings as an Example."

And there it is. Apparently, these rules were not being followed.

Excellent find Andy. Baldwin is guilty.
