How to add an Avatar ??
Thought I had this computer stuff down pat ... BUT... realizing now, I just know enough, to get into trouble.
Q: How do we use the Avatar ?
I copy and try to paste, from my 'puter, other web site ETC....Guess I don't understand the FAQs here>
Thanks

Re: How to add an Avatar ??
Go to "User control panel" then go to "profile" then "edit avatar." If you choose "upload from a url" then you have to have this small picture hosted on a web site like photobucket then copy and paste that link. If you upload from your computer then the pic has to be very small in size and pixel size. "Maximum dimensions; width: 80 pixels, height: 80 pixels, file size: 6.00 KiB."
You may need to shrink a pic down using a picture editor like Paint. What error msg are you getting? If you want to email a pic to me, I don't mind hosting it and sending you the link or shrinking it and sending you the attachment back.

Re: How to add an Avatar ??
I have tried repeatedly without luck to post a pic from my photobucket account to this forum for use as my Avatar.
The forum apparently considers it some sort of possible "attack vector", and refuses it.
I am assuming that this is due to it being from a photobucket account.
Any suggestions?

Re: How to add an Avatar ??
This is how I did it:
http://www.texasshooting.com/TexasCHL_F ... =2&t=24449" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Note: you have to change the pixel size to 70x70...at least I did.
It's pretty easy.

You could just save the file to your desktop, and select the option to "Upload from your machine".

Re: How to add an Avatar ??
I have tried the downloading to my desktop method. It now looks like a little teeny pic that is 80 x 80 pixels, but still 10 kib. The website advises that it can only be a max of 6 kib.
I am afraid if I make it smaller that there will be no point to using it. I am guessing that I am editing it incorrectly.

Re: How to add an Avatar ??
I noticed the same until I changed the pixel size to 70x70, then it worked for me. I assume you are talking about the avatar like the one I have of the lil' house in my posts. I took that pic in 2004 when we were in New Orleans.Purplehood wrote:I have tried the downloading to my desktop method. It now looks like a little teeny pic that is 80 x 80 pixels, but still 10 kib. Got it below the 70 x 70 pixel size, but it still shows as a 12kb file.joe817 wrote:I noticed the same until I changed the pixel size to 70x70, then it worked for me. Re: How to add an Avatar ??
Hmmm...the only thing I can suggest is keep reducing the pixel file, until it fits. Dunno.

Re: How to add an Avatar ??
Sounds like you may need to change the compression ration or lower the color depth (the number of bits used to describe each pixel). I'd be happy to take a whack at it for you. PM me and I'll send my email address, if you like.Purplehood wrote:Got it below the 70 x 70 pixel size, but it still shows as a 12kb file.joe817 wrote:I noticed the same until I changed the pixel size to 70x70, then it worked for me. Re: How to add an Avatar ??
Thanks for the instructions on how to add an avatar using the User Control Panel. The challenge I had was shrinking the image that I wanted to use as an avatar to less that 6kib. I found a little online service that worked well. Here's the URL:
http://www.resizemypicture.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Just start with step 1 (Choose your picture) and follow the directions from there. It worked well for me.
