Does it seem like the site is getting more spam posts than normaln the last couple days?

This is my first night on and I considered removing myself because of it. Is it normally this bad or is it new?

If you see them before we do make sure you report them. We don't always see them first time, but the one so far tonight is now gone.

We normally do not get many spam posts. I haven't seen the ones lately. IIRC, I seem to remember there only being big problems once or twice a year for a week or so. It gets cleaned up pretty quick, though, when it happens.

It appears to come in waves. The mods do an excellent job removing it and the offender. They have to sleep and do other things so they may not get it as soon as it appears but it never lasts long. I bet many people do not even see it.

I've been running this same forum package on a test server. Found it really helps to ban all the CN, IN, RU, and UA country IP ranges that the spam originates from and to block all the freebie email domains from IN and RU.

Would I be correct in assuming those IP addresses are China, India, Russia, and I'm not sure about, but maybe, United Arab Emirates?

UA is the country code for Ukraine internet/domains.
In forums, it's done from the admin side. This software has a nice lookup hook that spits out the entire range for that particular provider. That doesn't work for the craftier spammers, but it cuts out about 85%.
Unfortunately, we don't get the same level of control in our personal email.
