For more than a decade, the platform's "tag" feature collected biometric data from users' photos without properly informing them, Attorney General Ken Paxton said.

ETA: I can't figure out how you managed to add the forum URL to the front end of the link... very head scratchy...Paxton said that starting in 2011, Meta, then known as Facebook, rolled out a “tag” feature that involved software that learned how to recognize and sort faces in photos.
In doing so, it automatically turned on the feature without explaining how it worked, Paxton said — something that violated a 2009 state statute governing the use of biometric data, as well as running afoul of the state's deceptive trade practices act.
"Unbeknownst to most Texans, for more than a decade Meta ran facial recognition software on virtually every face contained in the photographs uploaded to Facebook, capturing records of the facial geometry of the people depicted," he said in a statement

Thanks, Roy! I didn't notice it had missing info in the link in my post. I put the link in my post the link without using the link function in the Full Edit Menu and when I noticed it I did a cut and paste and used the link function in the menu. I assume I didn't highlight all the script when I did the cut and paste.RoyGBiv wrote: Wed Jul 31, 2024 9:38 am Fixed link
