This just in, the National Football League has responded to criticism and, as of the 2023 Super Bowl, the "shotgun formation" will now be called the "LGBTQ formation." A spokesperson for the NFL said the initialization stands for "Long Give-Back To Quarterback."
"In this way," said spokesperson Andre G. Nous, "we have not only rid the league of the objectionable and triggering word 'gun,' but we show that the NFL embraces the LGBTQ+ community. This is such a common formation of the offense that our hope is the term 'LGBTQ' will now be mentioned by announcers at every NFL game, multiple times per game."
