Cadillacs of ARs
Cadillacs of ARs
Not trying to find out who is an AR snob in here... but I'm interested to know who shoots what (We know GA Heath is a snob and has the FN AR 308 ~$1300 or more)....
Who has a POF AR? And who has one in a 14" barrel or shorter?
Who has a Robinson Arms AR?
Anyone have NFA firearms that has gone through the NFA "loop-hole"... I'm curious because you'd think that in a forum such as this, there would be a lot of discussion in terms of legally obtaining firearms that will not break the bank (and I do mean LEGALLY). I'm probably over stretching, and if I am, I apologize... especially if Charles or other Mods deem my question against the COC... which I looked at, and do NOT see where my question is seeking illegal advice. Just curious.
With the state of the Nation and the Gov's actions today, a lot of people in the media think we're going nuts and are building up caches suitable for a militia, but I want to know what good, law abiding citizens deem necessary for their arsenal in terms of "assault" weapons and hunting equipment.
Thanks,
Brandon

Re: Cadillacs of ARs
I'm not certain exactly what the question is, but I'll answer what I could understand about it:
I have a Bushmaster A2 Shorty, purchased back during the ban for $800.00 and change.
I don't have a Cadillac, but I do have a Dodge Magnum with a Hemi V8...

That is big enough to haul the Bush Shorty.

Carry 24-7 or guess right.

I've had a POF .308, 16-inch barrel, on order since May of last year.
Does that count?

Back on topic, sorta: a Ford in the garage is worth more than a Porsche still at the dealership.

Re: Cadillacs of ARs
Very true about the car comments. There is no caddy here either, just a Chevy Malibu... but.. the question was instead of buying a Bushy, RRA, or Colt (which, I have shot all three brands while in the Army, and consider them to be all top notch quality ARs), who owns the "elite" rifles?
POF is one that I consider elite.... Robinson Arms XCR are considered elite... as well as the new LaRue Tactical Snipes... those are just sweet though.
I'm a POF/LaRue fan. I just don't have the bank roll to provide myself the cognitive recognition of purchasing one for myself.
The other question was in regards to NFA Firearms/Class III. I have seen some discussions elsewhere about the Living Trust/Trust loophole that many folks have been doing, so that they can purchase NFA/Class III easier and "cheaper"... but I hadn't fully understood that process, nor have I met anyone that has done that (yet).
I'm in a small town now, and there are a minutia of FFLs in a 100 mile radius (meaning, they're few and far between... ) I can drive to Lubbock, but after paying gas, and the retail markup for that area, I could've driven to Dallas or Houston and done a FTF with someone... it's frustrating...
I'm praying for the job in Houston to open up sooner than January, so we can move ASAP.

I don't know how a trust would be cheaper unless you needed to bribe the CLEO to do it as an individual.

Re: Cadillacs of ARs
I'm confused on the NFA question as well. The living trust does not change the cost of the transferrable weapons, it just skirts the CLEO signoff. The only way I know of to get NFA select fire weapons cheaper, is with a class III license and a letter from a LEA requesting a demonstration.
Personally I consider the XCR more of a novelty than a"cadillac", but that's just me I'm sure.
POF, LMT, LWRC, and few others are at the top of my list, for whatever that's worth.

Re: Cadillacs of ARs
Actually MY FN AR is not reallya member of the AR family as the AR means Autoloading Rifle. But I do have a few AR rifles. I have my 6.8 SPC build (Very Nice, but more like a rodded out '68 stang with a 427 SOHC under the hood). Then I have my DPMS 6.8 factory rifle (the Stock 91 GT mustang) and my second build (Its the '68 stang with a 429 Cobra Jet, still for sale but time is running out), and finally my first build which is my varmit AR (the Police Interceptor model Crown Vic with a 347 stroker). Personally I am more into performance than comfort with a strong tendency towards customized.
How do you explain a dog named Sauer without first telling the story of a Puppy named Sig?

Re: Cadillacs of ARs
Thanks for the info... I'm not up to snuff on the NFA/Class III and feel awkward for asking sometimes (cause ya know, you feel like a criminal if you start asking questions like that, especially to the "wrong" people). I appreciate you answering the questions to the best of my understanding... I am curious, too, who have lowers/uppers without the matching partners yet? For instance, I have a stripped lower... that I paid entirely too much for (Essential Arms 5.56 Stripped)... and am waiting to order a Del-Ton or DPMS upper.... Del-ton I think would be quicker though.ScubaSigGuy wrote:I'm confused on the NFA question as well. Who else has parts for a build and don't have it finished yet (besides mr. heath)?
BTW, Heath, thanks for the input on your two 6.8s... I love that round, and wish I could manage it
Re: Cadillacs of ARs
I have a LaRue 20" stealth setup with PRS stock, Trijicon 3x9 with LaRue mount, and LaRue bipod, I also have a nice custom tan finish Lancaster Ak. Those are kinda Cadillac in my book. I also have a CETME which would be like an old Ford powerstroke, an Armalite A2, and S&W M&P with a few hot rod parts on it. LOL then I have a MOSIN which would be like an old Toyota Cressida. I am working on acquiring a Springfield SOCOM in the near future though and I plan on putting an ACOG on it. Or the OSR from LaRue, but I don't like to wait and I know it would be one helluva wait for an OSR. I don't particularly care for Cadillac so I like all the "other" car references.

Has anyone heard of JP Rifles? They come across as if they make one of the better AR variants, but I've not met anyone that owns one.
Here's their website...if anyone knows of them, please tell me your thoughts.

Yup those look like some high quality top dollar rifles. They offer some very nice custom style options or features you just don't see anywhere else. But for their pricing you are getting a prettier gun than say LaRue or POF in my opinion.
