My rep is a co-author, but I sent him a reminder about the bill, told him I was counting on his vote in favor of HB1893, and thanked him for his strong support.

My Rep is also a co-sponsor of the bill. Called his Austin and District offices this morning and requested that he vote for the bill.

I'm trying to understand where we are in the process at this point, but I think i'm lost. Has this been put on the calendar in the house or senate for a full vote yet?

The House bill died on the floor calender as they ran out of time before getting to it. The Senate bill SB1164 passed yesterday and now has to go to the House. It will more than likely have to go through committee and then through Calendars to get set for the House floor. Time is short, so there is a question if it will make it through with enough time to get out on the floor.

SB1164 only passed to the third reading in the Senate. It's on the Intent Calendar today, but we don't know if we will have 21 votes again. The Senate is in session now.

SB1164 just passed the Senate on a 19 to 12 vote with one amendment exempting "teaching" hospitals.

Just had to post this tidbit from Senator Rodney Ellis, quoted in a Houston Chronicle article today (

Sen. Rodney Ellis, D-Houston, said the bill could confuse university police, who now know that a person with a gun on campus is violating the law.
"When there is an alcohol-related tragedy on campus, you don’t hear claims that giving students a 12-pack is the solution," he said.
"Yet, when it comes to gun-related incidents, we seem to think that putting more guns in the mix will lead to a good, rather than bloody outcome," Ellis said.

Every time I hear this argument, I ask for an example of when that's been a problem
anywhere since Texas started CHL. A college campus is not a special case in this regard.

Tornado, I have been doing the same. We've had, what, fourteen years of concealed carry in crowded venues like shopping malls, grocery stores, etc. without innocent bystanders being shot. The crowds of students that I pass in the halls of my university building are little different from the ones I pass in HEB.

What that really means is that Sen Ellis is confused. He just doesn't know it.
