Governor To Call Special Session
Date Not Set Yet

POSTED: Tuesday, June 9, 2009
UPDATED: 2:20 pm CDT June 9, 2009

AUSTIN, Texas -- Gov. Rick Perry said he will call a special session to deal with unfinished legislation.

Perry said he hadn't decided when the special session would be held.

The Legislature adjourned its regular session June 1 without passing key bills that would have kept important state agencies running. Those included the state transportation and insurance departments.

Perry, answering reporters' questions as he began business leaders' roundtable, declined to say whether the contentious voter identification issue would be on the agenda.

Should we start calling and requesting OUR bills be brought up in this as well?

Charles?

I would venture an uneducated no because there will be limited topics open for discussion which allows for more direct pressure and opposition from the anti's to kill/vote down bills. Aditionally, as Charles already stated, the Gov. would throw out ALOT of politcal capital because it is such a contentious issue that pits friends vs friends. (Not a direct quote).

Personally, and this is just MHO, I don't care if it pits 'friends' against eachother.
They're not there to 'make friends'.. they're there to pass laws their constituents voted them in for. Plain and simple.
Myself, and the other constituents pay their salary, and they are supposed to do what we tell them we want them to do.
The fact that they failed to do so, is the reason they're being called back in the first place.
</soapbox>

Now, that said, I know that we need to 'play the system' as well in order to get our goals reached... I just hate that that's the way it has to be done. :banghead:
And this is why I could never be a politician. My 'political doubletalk' filter would clog up too fast, and I'd probably punch someone "rlol"

:mrgreen:
