Looking for a gunsmith

Post by Medley86 »

Just what the title says, looking for a gunsmith to change the sights on my xdm. I live near jasper but willing to go to beaumont for a good job. Have seen pictures and read horror stories about mangled slides when people don't know what they are doing with the Springfields.

I don't know of gunsmiths in your area, but if you have any DIY in you, you may want to consider this sight pusher. I bought one and it's great. I've used it on 1911's, CZ75's, and a Glock. I cut three narrow pieces of leather to protect the finish of the slide, but it probably wasn't necessary.

I thought about trying to do it myself. From my reading on a xd specific forum, they say the xd models tend to have very tight dovetails, to the point some people are having to use air chisels to get the factory sights out. If they really are that bad I would rather have a professional do it, then if there is a problem they should have the expertise and ability to not make a mess out of it.

If you haven't purchased the new sights already, check out this website. Highly recommended on XD Talk forum:

http://www.shop.xd-hs2000.com/Sights_c5 ... scsfapp002

He offers free installation if you purchase the sights from him. After purchase, you send your slide to him and he does the rest and turnaround in a few days. I ordered a set of Trijicons for my XDm, and was very pleased with the service.

XD sights can be challenging, but shouldn't be an issue to any gunsmith or gun shop in your area with the right tools.

If you don't find anybody, and you happen to get to Houston, shoot me a PM and I'll fix you up.

I already ordered sights, found truglo tfo for a little less than 73$ shipped. I would imagine most smith's could do the job but was hoping for a recommendation based on actual experience.
