Hi Everyone,
I went to a local Taco Cabana today that I was near to see if they were posted. They had the normal sign stating that unlawful carry of a firearm, etc.....but they also had a sign that read "This establishment does not permit the possession of a weapon on these premises." The wording may not be exact, but was something very very close to that. This is not a 30.06 sign, but seems to want to get the same message across. Should this be posted on http://www.texas3006.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;? I see that there are lists of legal signs as well as not legal signs there.
Thanks.

Actually I view this as good news, many Taco Cabanas have a miniaturized version of the 30.06 on their windows. Lately there have been report of some Taco Cabano's without the dreadful signs and this apears to be one. I wouldn't bother posting it in this case if its not even close in wording.davlanders wrote:Hi Everyone,

Well the listing website does have a column for whether the "posting" is compliant. I think it's good to list and note, because it gives those who check out the website a heads-up.... Who knows, they may find out their posting isn't compliant and change it. I'd say the chances that a non-compliant business becoming compliant might (reasonably and logically but certainly not necessarily) be fairly high.
I'd like to THINK they post non-compliant signs because some "policy" forced them to post, so they posted a non-compliant sign purposely. LOL

To my way of thinking if the sign doesn't have "30.06" in the wording it isn't even an attempt at posting a proper 30.06 sign and no one who has ever been in a chl class or renewal should be confused. Not all of us have memorized the exact wording, but I would think the the sign should have some resemblance to a real sign. Where do we draw the line? Do we start listing the no gunbuster signs or the required TABC signs found at convenience stores. To my way of thinking if it doesn't have 30.06 in the wording it can't be a 30.06 sign
One might ask whats the harm in posting the sign? I find that most business owners monitor the presence of their business name presence on the interweb. I am concerned when we post these businesses, we let them know that hey have noncompliant sign, and we will have educated them on the correct way of doing it.

I agree. Plus, as others have mentioned in other threads, some of the non-compliant signs may be intentional. This is especially true with chain stores, or a franchise operation where the company retains some power to dictate store appearance, signage, etc. This may be a way to comply with corporate/franchise policy without actually prohibiting armed CHLs from entering.Liberty wrote:To my way of thinking if the sign doesn't have "30.06" in the wording it isn't even an attempt at posting a proper 30.06 sign and no one who has ever been in a chl class or renewal should be confused. Russell's http://www.texas3006.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is a great resource for CHLs and I hope people take the time to add locations. I also like the ability to show if the sign is compliant or not. However, I think the non-compliant element is useful only if the sign is very close to compliance in that it let's us know that if we cross the sign, we may find ourselves arguing the finer points of the sign like 7/8" letters instead of 1". If a sign isn't even close to being in compliance with 30.06, then I wouldn't list it myself.
