Austin/Travis County EMS STAR Flight Nurse Kristin McLain, 46, died last night (Monday, April 27, 2015) in the Barton Springs area of Austin when she became disengaged from the helicopter's hoist and fell from the helicopter during a wilderness rescue call. She died at the scene. Hers is the first fatal accident in STAR Flight's 30-year history. The patient, an adult female, was successfully rescued and moved to a hospital.
Please keep the paramedics, pilots, and flight nurses of STAR Flight, as well as the entire Austin/Travis Co. EMS folks in your thoughts and prayers. They have a tough job to do in the best of times.

Re: Austin/Travis STAR flight crew death
I thoughts go out the her family and the Star Flight crews. Most folks don't realize just how many hours these crews are in the air and how much danger they place themselves into on a regular basis. In July 1999, we lost a crew of three here in Houston.

Greater love has no man than this; that he should lay down his life for his friends.
