I agree TAM. When I graduated from a small central Texas town back in 1973, my mother was dying in a Houston hospital. My family left me home alone for the ceremony. I respected students whose entire extended families showed up and celebrated their graduation. Some of those students had to fight hard to graduate so I do not begrudge their families cheering a little bit loudly.

My daughter graduated from the University of Missouri a couple of weeks ago. She walked for two different degrees on two different days and there was cheering for almost each and every student that crossed the stage.

I know nothing about any of this. Every time I walked across the stage there was a collective gasp that I made it at all. :waiting:

Maybe that's why my parents didn't come......they didn't know I was actually graduating....
