First time to threaten use of gun

Should I carry while working in the yard? Maybe but I hate feeling paranoid.

Why is carrying while at home (inside or outside) considered "being paranoid"?

Why not call it "being paranoid" when you carry away from your home?

It is the same thing. You carry a gun because you do not know when/if you will find yourself in a situation where you will need to use it in self-defense. You may just find yourself in that situation while at home.

Paranoia is fear of a danger that clearly isn't there.

Preparedness is recognition that danger exists and making provisions to deal with it.

Denial is knowing that danger exists and not being prepared for it. This is no healthier than paranoia.

If anyone manages to figure out when it's not paranoid to carry a gun because you'll need it, I'd pay good money to learn that trick so I don't have to lug all that steel and lead around all the time when it's unnecessary.

Until that time I'll stay prepared.

I tell people I am not paranoid, I am para-prepared.
As to carrying while doing yard work...YES! My "salesman" incident could have occured while I was working in the yard just as easily...or more so. You are vulnerable while working in the yard... go for it.

...several burglaries I've known about happened when the homeowner was working in the yard...he went out the back door...the perp went in the front...or the reverse...don't know of a case where the homeowner stepped in for a glass of water and met the burglar but it's not far-fetched at all...I lock all doors all the time...

YES! Good point! I knew some folks, elderly lady and her husband who were working in their front yard. She went in and surprised the BG, who punched her in the face and beat her. Hard to have a weapon on you in re-entering your home if you didn't take it with you. So even if you didn't need it outside, you might going back in.

...in this heat, you can drive all over town and find garage doors left up a foot or more...to keep the heat from building up...MOST homes I work in, the homeowner doesn't lock the door from the garage into the house...and there you are...a couple in their 70s were beaten, she severely, he to death, here a coupla years ago because a perp rolled in under the door....even 6" gives enough space to grab the door and strip the opener, forcing it up...if you want ventilation for the garage, I tell them add a fan in a side wall, or a turbine over the garage, or insulate the garage...anything but leave the drawbridge down...
