Why not call it "being paranoid" when you carry away from your home?
It is the same thing. You carry a gun because you do not know when/if you will find yourself in a situation where you will need to use it in self-defense. You may just find yourself in that situation while at home.

Paranoia is fear of a danger that clearly isn't there.
Preparedness is recognition that danger exists and making provisions to deal with it.
Denial is knowing that danger exists and not being prepared for it. This is no healthier than paranoia.
If anyone manages to figure out when it's not paranoid to carry a gun because you'll need it, I'd pay good money to learn that trick so I don't have to lug all that steel and lead around all the time when it's unnecessary.
Until that time I'll stay prepared.
