Going back to the discussion over how to win hearts & minds with things like facts and logic, I wanted to share this.

I got a call the other night from a long-time friend of mine who lives in shall we say, an un-friendly state to gun rights. He, like me, is a data-driven individual who works in the sciences. He called me up and he said, "I'm hearing all these things, but there's not much real information there. You're a gun-owner. Can I ask you some questions?"... Three hours later, we had discussed the different types of guns, what is and is not legal to own, the National Firearms Act, the *actual* way gun purchases at gun stores happen, NICS, AR-15 vs M16, use of force laws (I used the ones from Texas, cause they were easiest for me to look up quick to give him the actual words in the law), crime statistics (on which we did our own math from sources like the FBI website), and pretty much everything else.

He decided to join the NRA and write his congressmen because, "even if they don't listen to me, I want to be on record". If every gunowner could convert one confused/neutral or anti, imagine how that would impact those who still have to be re-elected.

I am sure that there are exceptions, but I never came across them.

You found Marine officers just as liberal as Army officers? That a General is a liberal doesn't surprise me at all....I don't think I've ever seen more than a couple officers above about 0-5 or 0-6 that weren't brown-nosing politically oriented perfumed princes.

A lot like the big city police chiefs who are out of touch with the beat cops and the community's needs.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't police chiefs in many places political appointees? That is, they don't get promoted up the chain until they are finally the chief of police, but someone like a mayor or city council has to make them chief. I'm sure there are some chiefs of police that were never even LEOs.

They call them City Administrators

They're probably as common as general officers who have never received incoming fire on the battlefield, which maybe explains a lot.
