I once saw a quote that summed up the subject so well that I made it my signature.

I dunno about that. Have you ever heard the expression, "Hey, hold my beer and watch this!" ? I have watched very intelligent and educated people turn into completely different animals after a couple too many drinks. I'm sure others have witnessed the transformation as well. I wish I had a nickle for every time I have watched normal fellers grow "beer muscles" after over indulging.

IIRC, I've never grown any "beer muscles" but I have, on rare occasion, become 'Hollywood Handsome' and quite erudite; that said, "...I never picked cotton..." :leaving

Guys. The whole premise of this thread is wrong. The consumption of beer actually makes you smarter as explained by that great sage of Cheers fame, Cliff Clavin:
"Well ya see, Norm, it's like this... A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers."

"Also if you can not be trusted with a pistol after a few drinks you can't be trusted with a pistol period. Booze is liquid bad judgment no doubt but it shouldn't make you into a darn moron. If you are a moron sober I don't know what to tell you." - BurnedOutLEO

Excellent thread. This or a similar thread should be a sticky for newbies like me trying to learn CHL laws.

For whatever my opinion matters (which is not much), I think being under the influence of anything and having to draw or shoot will be looked at on a case by case basis. I have a hard time believing that if I am at home, intoxicated, and a man breaks through my door with a machete and tells me he is going to kill me and starts running my way, that I am going to prison for shooting him.

If I am on a jury and that happened to someone, I don't care if he is drinking while snorting coke off a call girl's cleavage. He is justified in shooting the guy.

Unfortunately, a jury of our 'peers' is far from like-minded, level headed people. Zimmerman case seemed to disprove what I just said, but the things they said to news outlets afterwards makes you wonder.

Very true. There are idiots who think you are somehow never justified in using deadly force, even when there is a clear threat of bodily harm or death. Scary that these people are allowed to vote or sit on a jury.
