I sent my representative the following brief note:

"Honorable sir,

The military has been family in one way or another for about half my life, so your background assures my continued support of you, but I would ask that you please not allow others to penalize supporters of HB910 for the sins of certain Democrats (Dutton & Huffines).

You changed your previous yes vote to a no tonight. That puts HB910 in jeopardy, effectively allowing the feelings of 79,000 law enforcement officers to deny reduced 30.06 penaties and licensed open carry for 825,000 law abiding citizens of Texas. While I am sure that you have many eloquent words that you can tell me, let me assure you that like a guy named Paul from an old Good Book, I am observant of actions, not pretty words.

If there is any way that you can rescue HB910 from a slow death in committee, I and 824,999 other lawful licensed Texans would appreciate it.

Stay well and keep up the good fight!"

I signed it, gave my name, address, email, and phone number. I will not be an anonymous person to my doctor, nor to my politician. Some things are too important.

Senator Huffines is a Republican, not a Democrat.

Thank you Baldeagle, I missed that. Strange days when you cannot tell a Texas republican from a democrat.

I do not have time to read 79 pages of message thread, and I do not know what votes were taken nor the significance of a yeah or nay for each vote.

Can someone please help me with any votes associated with Rep. Patricia Harless on SB11 and HB910? I'd like to know if she supported the right votes or was part of the sleaze to derail things.

I have communicated with her on numerous occasions as her constituent, expressing support for the bills. I'd like to know if she helped, hurt, or was indifferent to these bills.

It might make everyone feel good to besiege these people with phone calls, nasty email or worse. Before you do, remember we still need their votes later on. Even though most if not all might be GOP, at this time I'd consider each one to be a swing vote. They feel neither obligation or fear if HB910 fails. Why, because it is the safest position to take right now. If you want anything to pass this session, I'd suggest moderation at this point.
I sent mine a thank you email for NOT changing his vote.

Quite a while I came to this conclusion when it comes to politicians....

If their mouth is moving they're lying...
If there mouths are shut they're figuring a lie...
If their eyes are open they're seeing how they can screw you....
If their eyes are closed they're dreaming of screwing you....

And finally....if in the off chance they actually DO what they said , it was because they were getting something out of it to screw you with later.....

Good luck 910 and 11.....you'll need it....

I wanted the House to concur, but a vote not to concur was not a vote against HB910.

I agree, I wanted it bad today. I understand why the votes went as they did.
I just hope it can be hashed out before the end.
Concerning duties of the conference committees, it seems limited in scope and they can only address
issues of difference between the two chambers, How will this been done with the differences being so little? (3 words)

[quote="shootnfish"]I found this information about conference committees in the
Guide to Texas Legislative Information at http://www.tlc.state.tx.us/gtli/legproc ... oncom.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; :

" A conference committee’s charge is limited to reconciling differences between the two chambers, and the committee, unless so directed, may not alter, amend, or omit text that is not in disagreement. Nor may the committee add text on any matter that is not in disagreement or that is not included in either version of the bill in question."

Presumably the conference committee would decide the entire amendment is in disagreement, and thus omit all of the amendment language.

After the concurrence vote failed there were motions to both instruct the committee to keep the amendment and strip the amendment, but both motions were withdrawn.

v7a wrote:Presumably the conference committee would decide the entire amendment is in disagreement, and thus omit all of the amendment language.
but it would be in disagreement with an amendment that is amended almost the exact same. Meaning they would have to agree with one of the amendments, right?

*Edited* Correction, This would be as a result that the House did not concur with the senate(amend), that being the disagreement. Belay my last...... Got it!

Point taken.

I get that things are done a certain way, but it is hard to stomach when the face value is screaming otherwise. Here's to 11th hour recall and concurrence shenanigans :txflag: :cheers2:
