It does seem that most people are still taking around 60 days, it's just for some reason a few posters have gotten theirs in lightning fast time (17 days in one case), that it brings out the "why not me too" factor.
There seems to be no rhyme or reason to the process speed.

Oy vey! I can't believe how fast this was. Again, this was a RENEWAL, so that may be some of the reason it has been so fast. If I get it Tuesday, then that would be 14 days from the day they signed for it at the office! Way to go DPS!!!
Online Application Completed: 1/6
Class Completed: 1/15
Mailed: 1/15
Received @ DPS: 1/18
Online Status Avail: 1/26
All Green Manufacture Pending: 1/28
Mailed: 1/29

You January folks all seem like you are getting your stuff back soon. I mailed mine in on the 17th of Dec. and I should receive it today hopefully.
Glad the system is working faster in Austin. The only reason I can think the Dec. apps are taking so long is because of the holidays

Seems odd to me still. I would think first in, first out...but I guess that isn't how they are doing it in Austin. The secrets of the guberment!

Next time I have to mail something I need to see how much money I can save downgrading from the "USPS Priority" that I usually use to the "USPS We'll-Get-It-There-When-We-Get-It-There" that the state apparently uses. This is the longest trip from Austin ever. They should have a pickup option. Sorry for the venting, just getting tired of waiting on the mailman to show up.

Applied online on the 23rd. Going to mail everything off this Monday, and get my fingerprints on Tuesday.
I'm taking a road trip in the middle of March so it would be great if it got processed in a timely manner.

I'm starting to think that "mailed" doesn't really mean in the custody of the Postal Service. Maybe they need another step between Manufacturing and Mailed like Mail Pending...

....er, I know I must be out of date with the new math, but isn't 29 - 3 =
26 days?

It's not the new math that's giving you problems, it's the new composing that's all mixed up

Unless they paid some bum to walk it down here from Austin, I think you are right.

I stand corrected. I'm a musician, not a mathematician. That's what I get for counting on my fingers.

01/22/11 class completed
01/23/11 online application completed
01/27/11 FAST fingerprinted
01/27/11 mailed documents
My only issue with the process so far is that I was on hold with the DPS CHL hotline for almost 20 minutes before I got completely disgusted and hung up. My CHL instructor said that we could just drop off our stuff at DPS headquarters but I didn't see any info about that on their website, so I was calling to see if I could drop it off since I was already in Austin getting fingerprinted. Oh well, surely mailing it from 20 miles away won't slow down the process too much.....
