Good afternoon Jimmie, Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts about our decision to prohibit firearms in our stores. Please understand that we recognize and respect our customers’ rights under the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, a right that prohibits the government (but not private retailers) from infringing on citizens’ right to bear arms. That right, however, must be balanced with our need as a retailer to provide a safe and comfortable environment for our customers and team members. That's why, after careful and thoughtful analysis, we have decided to prohibit our customers and our team members from bringing firearms onto our store premises. While this decision may disappoint some of our valued customers, such as yourself, we stand by our decision and have received overwhelmingly positive feedback from our communities about it.
We hope that you will continue to be a part of the Sprouts family notwithstanding our decision on this issue. We value your patronage and hope to see you again soon.
Sincerely,
Stephanie

I liked this part; " a right that prohibits the government (but not private retailers) from infringing on citizens’ right to bear arms." These guys are out there.

Although I don't agree with their stance, I think it shows that they thought about their actions and are willing to stand by it. I think that only a dramatic reduction in income will change their mind.

You should copy/paste my reply from earlier.
If they are consistent, we should be consistent...

My oldest daughter and her family live in Wylie, Tx. I used to like going into Sprout's in Murphy when I visited and she used to shop there, but alas, the "communities" want another "Gun Free Kill Zone" so be it, but my family won't be shopping or spending their money there. My daughter's husband is a Police Officer and she has a CHL and she carries when not teaching school.
But as with all the Liberal Wanna Feel Good Folks, we know who runs Sprout's now. Cumbaya.

Well, I received the form letter from Stephanie (the exact same on that quite a few people have already posted - so I'll spare you all that).
Being the ornery person that I am, I decided that I needed to send her a response:
Stephanie,
Thank you for replying with your form letter.
I have seen this exact response a dozen times on the TexasCHLforum.com site.
One thing that I feel like I should question, in your response you said "That right, however, must be balanced with our need as a retailer to provide a safe and comfortable environment for our customers and team members." Please explain to me how taking away defensive weapons provides a safe environment? I did not see any armed guards or off duty law enforcement. As far as I could tell, after placing the 30.06 sign in your store window banning LEGAL concealed carry of a firearm, the only people in your store with a gun would be people who intend to break the law. If a person with criminal intent targeted a store to rob, I think that he would go into a place of business that he knew has banned concealed carry. After all, they don't want to take a chance of being shot!
So, all things considered, your claim of making a "safe" environment is disingenuous. I will still NOT be coming into your store, not only to exercise my right to chose with whom I do business, but also to protect myself from possible harm from people who are not threatened by a paper sign in a window.

Well, the Sprouts in Cinco Ranch is now posted. Dang!

No more shopping there for me.
I will be sending my letter to corporate shortly and will be awaiting the same canned response everyone else received.

The one at Westheimer and Kirkwood has been posted some time in the last month. Wanted to check them out but they won't be receiving any of my business.

If I were a victim of a violent crime at a 30.06 posted store, what would be my chances of prevailing in a lawsuit for inadequate security and denying me the means to protect myself?
Has it ever been tried?
Update- I guess the “inadequate security” has been tried (no pun intended) with mixed results. I would like to see what would happen if it was a 30.06 posted store.

The only posting at the one in Temple, TX, is the Alcohol Blue sign on the front door as required by law.
